March Principal's Message

March 1, 2017

Dear Holman Families:

I’m so glad that spring is finally around the corner.   Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead on Sunday, March 12th.  With the extra hour of daylight, it's a little easier to do some fun activities with the family.  One of the most important things that you can do to support your child's success is to read with your child every day.  Research states that daily reading practice (10-30 minutes depending upon grade level) will continue to strengthen skills in all academic domains.  Have your child read to you; read with your child; and/or read to your child.  Ask them questions about the reading.  You may even want to consider keeping a daily writing journal to share and record ideas generated from their reading.  Daily reading and writing both in school and at home will continue to strengthen the foundation for success in all academic domains.  Continue to learn.  Knowledge is power!

I like to read a book in school.  I like to read because it’s cool.  I like to read when it is hot.  I like to read books a lot.  I want to thank all of you for coming out to Dr. Seuss Night.  Our Book Fair and Dr. Seuss Night were a huge success.  Thank you to our H.O.P.E. Book Fair coordinators and volunteers for their organization and dedication.  Thank you to Ms. Schadl and the Jackson Education Association (JEA) for sponsoring our Read Across America week and our Dr. Seuss Night.  I also would like to thank the teachers and staff who volunteered their time and energy as readers and actors in the performance of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.  It was great to see the school packed with over 600 Holman community members excited about reading.

Congratulations to Mrs. Stephanie Macaluso!  Mrs. Macaluso was selected as Jackson Township’s District Teacher of the Year at the February Board of Education meeting.  Holman is very fortunate to have her on our wonderful staff.
