    6th Grade Social Studies Holland– World History I 

    Course Description:                                                                                                                          

    Welcome! This World History course is a survey of history beginning with Early Humans and Societies and ending in The Roman World. The purpose of this course is to provide students with an historical background of early civilizations. This survey course will also enable students to understand the geographic, political and economic developments that affect current events

    Course Expectations:

    Students in this World History class are expected to develop writing skills, to keep up with reading assignments, and to begin the process of historical analysis critical to understanding and interpreting the past.  Students are expected to come to class prepared and to complete assignments on time.

    **Students can also view the textbook from any device by accessing the PDF folder/link from my class page. You may access any class page from the school website.  The PDF can be viewed from most tablets and computers. 

    Grading Plan:

    30% Tests and Projects

    30% Homework

    20% Classwork and Participation   

    20% Quizzes and Larger Assignments

    • Each student is required to create and maintain an organized composition notebook/journal. All student work must be added to their composition notebook/folder as a writing portfolio. Do not discard any assignments.
    • Any work not completed during the daily lesson will be considered homework. Please bring all class materials in daily. Organization and record of assignments will be helpful for open note quizzes/tests, large assignments and studying for their final exam. Please read over your child’s student planner for any other important information.

     

    Course Policies:

    Student Work: Students will be expected to complete assignments outside of class time on a regular basis.  All students are expected to read class material, think critically and write effectively.  Students are expected to use complete sentences, proper grammar and correct spelling in every written performance. Please check the student planner and the work that was assigned for homework nightly. Students should read over their “ Guided Reading” handouts and notes nightly in preparation for their assessments. Please check my class page and Genesis/Portal grade book weekly.

    Absences: If a student is absent, it is HIS/HER responsibility to get all late work from the teacher and return it in a timely manner. ( A student may see me during homeroom or after school to catch up.) All information can be found on class pages or the student’s monthly calendar.  Please email me and let me know of an absence. I can either email work or have work set aside to be picked up.

    Class Rules:

    • The student is expected to treat the teacher and other students with respect at all times.  Please use this as a guideline, “Do Unto Others As You Would Like to Be Treated”. You know what is right and wrong and you will be expected to act accordingly.
    • Students are expected to be in their seats and prepared for class when the bell rings. Being prepared for class means having all materials, portfolios, books, pens, etc. out and ready.
    • Pay attention. Talking while the teacher is instructing or while other students are presenting will not be permitted. Listen the first time directions are given.
    • Students will stay in their seats at all times unless otherwise directed by the teacher.
    • Students may use the pass to use the restroom. Please sign out correctly in notebook.

    • Composition Notebook (So Pages Can Not be Ripped Out)
    • Any Color Pen the Student Enjoys 
    • Colored Pencils/ Markers/Crayons (Personal Preference)
    • Folder (For Extra Handouts)
