Writing Unit of Study: The Lens of History-Research Reports
This unit is designed to support students' writing of informational texts within a content area study, in this case a social studies unit on Westward Expansion.
Students will focus on writing informative tests to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
This unit will ask students to engage in research, including keeping track of and citing relevant sources. To find relevant information, students wil need to delve deeply into informational texts, discerning significant ideas and supporting information.
High Frequency Words
Every week, in addition to word study intstruction, students are working on No Excuse Words. These are grade level appropriate words found frequently in texts that students in 5th grade should know, recognize, and spell upon sight; also known as “sight words”.
