Our Search Will be Thorough, Transparent, and Inclusive
January 22, 2026
Dear Jackson School Community,
The Jackson Township Board of Education would like to share an important update regarding district leadership.
After thoughtful consideration, Superintendent Nicole Pormilli has informed the Board of Education of her decision to retire, effective July 1, 2026. We are deeply grateful for her years of dedicated service to our students, staff, and community. Under Superintendent Pormilli’s leadership, the district has maintained strong programs and co-curricular opportunities for students through a global pandemic, a financial crisis due to millions of dollars cut from state aid to Jackson Schools over the last seven years, and a rapidly changing educational landscape. We thank her for her commitment to our schools, staff, students, and community.
With this announcement, the Board is beginning the process of conducting a comprehensive search for our next Superintendent of Schools.
This is one of the most important responsibilities of the Board, and we are committed to conducting a search that is thorough, transparent, and inclusive.
We recognize that the stakes are high. Given our shifting demographics and the budget pressures we are facing, this is not a standard search. We need to find a leader who isn't just a good administrator, but someone who understands our specific community and can keep our students' needs at the center of every decision.
The Board will engage in an extensive search process to attract highly qualified candidates who reflect our district’s values and priorities. This process only works if we hear from you. We will be releasing a survey soon that asks you to share what you want to see in our next leader. The results of the survey will be used to create a superintendent profile, which will be shared at the February 18, 2026 board meeting, and will also be used by the board to guide the interview and selection process.
Our goal is to be able to approve our next leader in late Spring for a July 1, 2026 start date. Throughout the search, the Board is committed to keeping you informed as we recognize that leadership transitions can raise questions. This week, we will launch a page on our website dedicated to sharing our timeline, survey results and candidate profile as they develop. We want to assure you that the Board remains focused on maintaining stability, supporting our students and staff, and in selecting a leader who will guide the district forward with integrity, vision, and a strong commitment to student success.
We thank Superintendent Pormilli for her unwavering commitment to our children and community, and wish her nothing but the very best as she begins this next chapter of her life. We also extend our appreciation to the entire school community for your continued support and engagement as we begin this important work.
Sincerely,
Brian McCarron and Dr. Erica Osmond, Search Committee Co-Chairs
and the Jackson Township Board of Education
