WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE WHERE LEARNING IS A HOOT
Welcome to our classroom website. This is a great place where I will be able to keep families and students up to date on what we are learning and doing in the classroom.
If you need to contact me, the best way is through email - firstname.lastname@example.org click here
All conferences have been scheduled.
Please don't forget to check your child's folder every night. Please send in a sweater, jacket or sweatshirt for our outside recess. Remember girls can bring an old pair of sneakers to change into when we go out.
Thank you for sending in all of the October donations. The erupting pumpkins was a success.
(Little problem turning the pictures around.)
~ Readers Workshop ~
Unit 1 Building Good Reading Habits
In this unit, we will be developing habits for before, during, and after reading. We will learn how to tackle tricky words, and we will learn to work as a team with our partners. At this time, we should be bringing home our leveled reading books, along with a reading mat and a book bag. (Some students don't want to bring home their mat, because they're afraid they may lose it).
Please continue to read at home and sign the reading log. Students know where they can choose books from. However, there can be a range from easy to more difficult in a single leveled bin. They are encouraged to trade their books anytime if they are too hard. Here are a few tips for reading at home with your child.
Our first list of high frequency words have been sent home along with flashcards. Please read the sheet that went home explaining how and when your child will be tested on their words. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
~ Writer's Worshop ~ Unit 1 Small Moments
Students will use events from their lives -things they do or things that have happened to them - to write small moments stories.
Our first Topic (1) test will be sent home on Mon. 10/15. We spent a couple of days reviewing, and also did some reteaching and/or practice tests from our workbook for homework. When you see this homeowork come home, it means we will be having that topic test within the next day or two.
We are working on Topic 2 - Developing Addition and Subtraction Fluency to 10.
Your child will need a backpack and eventually an old shirt to use as a smock. Please label the shirt and put it in a large ziplock bag. Everything else will be supplied.
