Jaguar Kids Club - Social Skills Club

The H.C. Johnson Elementary School is facilitating a social skills club. Social emotional learning is critical to a child’s health and well-being, and directly affects academic performance and overall happiness in life.

The Jaguar Kids Club will offer students a chance to participate in socially driven activities designed to improve what are referred to as "executive functioning skills" like managing their time, planning, organization and self control. We would also focus on strengthening their development of age-appropriate language and interactions and building self esteem (e.g. friendship-making skills, learning to work in groups with peers, skills for dealing with feelings and stress).

The social skills driven clubs will be offered before and after school and children will be grouped according to their grade levels.

The goal of the activity-based social skills club is to help students transfer this social emotional learning into various aspects of their lives and education. Ideally, we want them to use learned social skills to build and sustain relationships with their peers both in and outside of the school program. This program would be beneficial for both special education and general education students.
