    Kindergarten Happenings!

     September 2018

    Read on to find out the learning that's occurring this month in our classroom. :)




    Phonics: Alphabet: This week we will be working on the letter t. We will focus on letter formation and the sound it makes.

    Rhyming: We will learn about rhyming words. Some activities we will complete are: sorting rhyming words, identifying rhyming words, and forming rhyming words.

    Reader's Workshop

    We Are Readers!  - Readers will learn the structures and procedures of Reader's Workshop. Students will begin reading from book bins and learn how to share, retell, and talk about books that they have read independently and with a partner.


    Writer's Workshop: 

    Launching the Writing Workshop! - This unit introduces the students to the world of writing. Routines and procedures for Writer's Workshop are introduced and students quickly identify themselves as authors and illustrators. Students will get to write both narrative (stories) and informational writing in this unit.




    Topic 1: Numbers 1-5 - We will learn to read, write, identify and represent numbers 1-5



    Bugs - We will learn about various types of bugs and their body parts. 


    Social Studies

    Celebrating Our Heritage - We will celebrate our heritage by learning about current holidays.

    Our lunch is scheduled for 11:10.

     Please drop off any birthday treats at the reception desk prior to 11:00!

    Summer birthdays will be celebrated in May/June! A schedule will come home with your child.


    Cafeteria Information 

    Each child has a lunch account in the cafeteria.  You can add money to the account online or can send a check to school for it.  Your child has an ID#,  located on the bus pass.  Your child will use the ID # to access the lunch account.  I will provide a lunch ID card at school that can be brought into the lunchroom to remind them of the number.  Please practice the ID number with your child until he/she has it memorized.
