Our District Curriculum
The Jackson School District’s curriculum aims to support the District’s Mission Statement and the NJ Student Learning Standards.
The district believes in educating the whole child and has curriculum to support both academic and social emotional learning.
Approaches to learning include:
- Direct instruction
- Whole and small group instruction
- Personalized Learning
- Accelerated Learning
- Center and problem-based instruction
- Experiences such as field trips, assemblies, academies of study (high school), enrichment, clubs, athletics and special programs.

Social Emotional Learning
What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?
SEL is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
SEL is embedded by design into the Jackson School District's curriculum and instruction. Through the support of CASEL (Collaboration for Academic Social and Emotional Learning) and Responsive Classroom approaches, our schools and staff utilize a number of methods to encourage social emotional health and abilities in our students.

As educators, we strive to make our curriculum effective, meaningful and cohesive. The Rubicon ATLAS Curriculum Program demonstrates the cohesive framework of our curriculum while providing comprehensive access to components such as the Unit Summary and Essential Questions.
The Unit Summary provides a brief overview of the content by grade level. Essential Questions are questions that focus on the concepts taught and that require reasoning, application, and evaluation.
These frameworks represent a living curriculum - one that is dynamic and responsive. As we continue to develop this resource, we hope that you find our curriculum site to be a useful source of information about our educational programs.

NJ Learning Standards
New Jersey Schools are required to align their curriculum to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). In the Jackson School District, our curriculum is fully aligned and in many cases, goes above and beyond the required New Jersey Standards.
