January 11, 2019
Dear Johnson Families,
Good afternoon, I hope everyone enjoyed a great winter break with family and friends. The New Year is off to an excellent start. Our second and fourth graders took the In-view test when we returned from break and we completed our annual spelling bee this week. All of our 4th and 5th graders participated in the spelling contest and our top 30 contestants competed on stage on Monday. Congratulations to this year’s top 5 spelling finalists: Jenna Cocuzza, Nicolas Dela Cruz, Gabriella Hamdi, Saide Hersh and Richard Swallick. All 5 contestants will represent Johnson in the District Spelling Bee on March 21st. A very special congratulations goes out to this year’s champion, Sadie Hersh!
On Wednesday, January 16th, we have reached the 80th day of school and we are celebrating the 80’s by wearing our most fly, rad, grungy or florescent attire! It’s going to be a totally gnarly day! Also on January 16th, the PTO has organized a Panera Bread Dine Out from 4-8pm at the Howell location. You will need to present the flyer for your purchase to count.
The fifth graders are diligently preparing for the Johnson winter concert. The concert will be held on January 18th at 7PM at the Jackson Memorial High School Fine Arts Building. This event is sure to be a lot of fun and we hope to see you at the show. Don’t forget to stop by Farley’s for some ice cream before or after the show! All day on January 18th, our PTO gets a portion of the sales donated to us by Farley’s when you mention you are from Johnson School.
Get your red and black Johnson gear ready! We are excited to announce that EVERY Friday will now be Johnson Spirit Day! Show your Johnson pride by wearing Johnson spirit wear or red and black every Friday starting January 11th, 2019.
A Note from the Nurse
It's that time of year, officially flu season. Please check all of your contacts and phone numbers to make sure they are up to date. More importantly, please make sure you have someone local who can pick your child up should they become ill. With the flu, as well as many other illnesses, symptoms and temperatures can increase rapidly. Also, please remember to dress your child according to the weather. It’s important to wear hats, gloves, scarves and winter coats this time of year. As always, our goal is to keep our students as healthy and safe as possible.
Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be taking place March 18th – March 22nd from 9:30am to 11:30am. If you have a child turning five years of age on or before October 1, 2019, registration packets will be available in February online or at the school. Please contact Johnson to schedule an appointment for the week of registration.
Our Occupational and Physical Therapists want to see our students on the "path" to success!!! Ask them about the Sensory Path!
