January 15, 2020

Dear Johnson Families,

Good afternoon, I hope everyone enjoyed a great winter break with family and friends.  The New Year is off to an excellent start.  We just completed our school level Spelling Bee.  Congratulations to this year’s top 5 spelling finalists:  Daniel Dipierro, Sadie Hersh, Adam Elkashawy, Izabella Hernandez and Chelsea Faulkner.  All 5 contestants will represent Johnson in the District Spelling Bee on March 31st.  A very special congratulations goes out to this year’s champion, Daniel Dipierro!

Congratulations to Mrs. Lori Glushko, Teacher of the Year, and Mrs. Denise Barrett, Educational Services Professional of the Year!  Johnson school thanks you for your dedication and commitment to our students and staff.  We appreciate all that you do every day!

Just a reminder, 1st Marking Period Report Cards were available on the Parent Portal on January 3rd.

The fifth graders are diligently preparing for the Johnson winter concert. The concert will be held tomorrow, January 16th at 7PM at the Jackson Memorial High School Fine Arts Building. This event is sure to be a lot of fun and we hope to see you at the show.  Don’t forget to stop by Farley’s for some ice cream before or after the show! All day on January 16th, our PTO gets a portion of the sales donated to us by Farley’s when you mention you are from Johnson School.

Also, tomorrow, we have reached the 80th day of school and we are celebrating the 80’s by wearing our most fly, rad, grungy or florescent attire!  It’s going to be a totally gnarly day!

School is closed on Monday, January 20th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In an effort to help our community, Mrs. Glushko’s class will be collecting cans of soup for our annual “Soup-er Bowl” event.  Each student is asked to bring in a can of soup and place it in the “TEAM BIN” of who they think will win the Super Bowl.  This is a fun way for our students to learn the importance of helping others.  All Donations will be delivered to the Jackson Food Pantry.  Thank you very much for all of your support. Donations will be accepted from Monday, January 27th until Friday, January 31st.

A Note from the Nurse

It's that time of year, officially flu season.  Please check all of your contacts and phone numbers to make sure they are up to date.  More importantly, please make sure you have someone local who can pick your child up should they become ill.  With the flu, as well as many other illnesses, symptoms and temperatures can increase rapidly.  As always, our goal is to keep our students as healthy and safe as possible.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be taking place March 16th – March 20th    from 9:30am to 11:30am.  If you have a child turning five years of age on or before October 1, 2020, registration packets will be available in February online or at the school.  Please contact Johnson to schedule an appointment for the week of registration.
