Principal's March Letter

Dear Rosenauer Parents,

The month of February is behind us and we are looking forward to March...and spring.  In February we had our Candy Bingo Night which was a great success.  I enjoyed seeing all the students having fun and getting excited about the large prizes.  Thank you to the PTA for putting this fun event together.

We also celebrated our two “Teachers of the Year” at the Board of Education meeting on the 21st.  Both Ms. Goodall and Mrs. Kobran were acknowledged and received an award from the BOE president, Barbara Fiero.  It was a great night and many Rosenauer teachers and support staff were there to celebrate the achievements of the “Teachers of the Year”.

Our 3rd and 4th graders participated in “Jump Rope for Heart”.  They worked very hard this month preparing for the event and it really paid off.  The two classes  raised $3,405 for the American Heart Association!  This is a great accomplishment for a school our size.  I am so proud of their hard work and dedication to such a worthy cause!  A very special thank you to Mrs. Pfluger for setting up and running this event.  Your tremendous efforts and devotion are greatly appreciated.

Our 9th Annual Gift Auction was held on Friday, February 24th.  It was a great night and a tremendous success!  Thank you to Andrea Frangella and the PTA parents who put together the event.  The monies raised will go to paying for future class trips, school events, evening events and other popular givebacks to the students of Rosenauer!

If you are not a member of the PTA and would like to join, please send $5 in an envelope with your name, child’s name, phone number and email address. Once a member, you will have access to the PTA Facebook page, "Sylvia Rosenauer Elementary School PTA", which provides you with all events going on at the school and is updated when needed as fast as we can.

On March 9th we will be hosting a Writers Expo.  This event will showcase our young writers as we display their pieces on the bulletin boards outside their rooms.  Parents will be encouraged to write positive comments on Post-its for all to see.  It is a great night to celebrate your child’s writing success.  We will also have our Spring Book Fair, so feel free to stop in to buy a book!

Students in grades 3-5 will begin taking the PARCC test at the end of March.    I will note the grades and subjects testing in the “Schedule of Events” which is listed below.  Third grade is scheduled to take the test starting on the 27th.  The test will take about 2 hours every day and will finish around 11:30.  Attendance is very important.  Students who miss a day will need to make it up.  The PARCC test will now be a requirement for high school graduation.  Taking this test in the elementary and middle school years will help your child gain the confidence and skills required to achieve that goal.  All students should get a good night’s sleep and have a nutritious breakfast each and every morning.  Studies also show that students who are hydrated perform better on standardized tests.  Although this test will not be used for placement purposes, we would like our students to try their best!  Thank you for your cooperation.

Breakfast is Served

Parents, please remember that we offer breakfast to all students everyday.  Any student has the opportunity to purchase a breakfast between 9:10, when the school opens to students, until 9:25, when students report to homeroom.

Reach for Success/SOAR

Our Reach For Success/SOAR programs restarted on Monday, February 13th and will end on Wednesday, March 29th.   Please mark your calendars and remember that students enrolled in the program should report to school at 8:20.  Please do not send your child/children before that time.
