May Principal's Message
May Parent Letter,
As the year quickly advances I have some important information to pass on.
First, our students in grades 3 through 5 will begin taking NJSLA (Formally PARCC) this week. The complete NJSLA schedule is listed below. Attendance and punctuality are very important. Students who miss a day will need to make it up. The NJSLA test will be a requirement for high school graduation. Taking this test in the elementary and middle school years will help your child gain the confidence and skills required to achieve that goal. All students should get a good night’s sleep and have a nutritious breakfast each and every morning. Studies also show that students who are hydrated perform better on standardized tests as well. Although this test will not be used for placement purposes, we would like our students to try their best! Thank you for your cooperation.
I am now accepting student placement requests from parents for the 2019-2020 school. All parent requests need to be submitted in writing to me by May 24th. I will do my best to honor your requests, but please understand that many factors go into the placement of students and your requests may not be met.
The Moving Up Ceremony will be on Monday, June 17th at 10 AM in the All Purpose Room. This year all fifth graders will be issued three tickets for the ceremony. The tickets will serve as identification for those attending. NO ONE will be admitted to the ceremony without a ticket. Strollers WILL NOT be permitted in the APR. We will provide an alternate location for parking strollers while the ceremony is underway. The tickets will be issued to your child on Wednesday, June 12th at the end of the day. Please make sure to secure those tickets when your child arrives at home. Space is limited and we will not be able to replace lost tickets. For those families requiring extra tickets, please write a note to your child’s teacher requesting the extra tickets needed. Extra tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
I have also posted a 5th grade Happening Letter on the school website for parents of all 5th graders, to view. 5th Grade Happenings This is a great time of year for our outgoing students. The activities planned by both the staff and the PTA are fun and will leave lasting memories. I have gone over these events with the 5th graders and reminded them that these events are perks for hard work and good behavior. Students who fail to meet expectations can be excluded. All of this was laid out in my Social Probation meeting that each 5th grader heard before Spring Break. Social Probation is now in effect, so I recommend reviewing the powerpoint posted on the school website with your 5th grader.
