October's Newsletter

October 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

September has come and gone and we are well established in our school and classroom routines.  Students are participating in both curricular and extracurricular activities and becoming a part of our school community and traditions.

The School & Home Association sponsored our inaugural 6th Grade Ice Cream Social and the event was a great success.  Teachers and students had an opportunity to meet and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. We hope to expand this tradition next year and look forward to your help.

October brings many programs and community initiatives.  Our Student Assistance Counselor, Ms. Lauren Sacs has been planning events to recognize “Week of Respect“, “Safe Schools Week”, and “Red Ribbon Week.”  Student assemblies and classroom presentations will be provided to educate our students on the importance of respecting each other for who we are, to remind students that violence is not the answer when dealing with conflict and anger, and to discuss the harmful effects drugs and alcohol have on the body and mind.  If you should need more information or wish to speak to Ms. Sacs directly, please reach out to her via email at or at 732-833-4727 for assistance.

Our McAuliffe Art Department is conducting a school-wide art project titled #whatliftsyoucmms.  This campaign provides an opportunity to express and share what truly inspires them. Students and staff will create a paper feather with images, words, and pictures depicting what inspires them in their lives. All feathers will be used to create giant wings which will be displayed in our school. Through this creation, all will have the opportunity to become part of the “living work of art” by stepping into the wings and sharing what inspires them. The #whatliftsyoucmms campaign promotes the positive attitudes of our school, public art, and personal motivation and was inspired by artist Kelsey Montague.

Special events for the month of October include:

  • SEAC meeting at JLHS on Monday, 10/15 @ 6:30pm.
  • School & Home Association Meeting on Monday, 10/22 @ 7pm.
  • Liberty HS 8th Grade Academy Informational Night for parents on Wednesday, 10/24 @ 6:30pm.
  • McAuliffe Coffee with the Principal will be held on Thursday, 10/25 @ 10 am in the Library.
  • The 6th Graders will have a Halloween Dance on Friday, 10/26 from @ 6 - 8pm.

We look forward to working with you this school year and building positive and memorable experiences with your children in a supportive and caring environment.

Yours in education,

Debra Phillips
