February's Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Exciting programs are happening here at the McAuliffe School.  We successfully completed our second Heart to Heart Social Emotional Parent Night in late January.  It was touching to see such involvement and connection between parents and their children in a positive, safe and open environment. There will be two more SEL Heart to Heart Nights this year for the remaining Habit, Community and Culture 6th grade classes this Spring.

We have officially unveiled our Vintage Shoppe in our school Library with a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Wednesday, January 30th.  Students will be able to purchase gently used clothes, shoes, and coats as well as general school supplies such as pencils and pens along with personal hygiene products for only $1.  This was made possible with a financial donation from the teachers at McAuliffe as well as clothing donations from the community and our School & Home Association. The Vintage Shoppe will be open to students during lunches, homeroom and on specific days after school.  We are encouraged that this will be another positive community project which will benefit our students for years to come. We will be collecting spring dresses and other items in our bin outside the school front doors. Feel free to drop off any gently used or new items you would like to donate or any new school supplies for students.

The Project Fit America voting campaign begins on Feb 2 - Feb 28.  This is a grant in the amount of $25,000 which includes outdoor and indoor equipment, a new Physical Education curriculum and a consultant to help  update our curriculum to increase physical activity. The school with the largest number of votes wins so we could use your support. Please vote every day! More information will be posted on our school website.

February 28, 2019 at 10am in the IMC will be our next Coffee with the Principal.  Mr. Rotante, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will present to parents on the academic options for students in the Jackson School District with regards to our Academy programs as well as the progression of our advanced math course of study for students.  Parents of all grade levels are encouraged to attend. There will also be an evening event scheduled this month for all parents of current 6th grade students taking the Advanced Math class this year.

Guidance Counselors have been visiting classes promoting the humanities options for our 7th and 8th grade students for the 2019-2020 school year. These forms are due to the Guidance office by February 15th. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Guidance Department.

As we continue to include more Social Emotional content in our classrooms and in our curricula, our teachers during Transitions Day participated in the first workshop for Student Advisory Period training.  This will be an additional support period taking place during the existing homeroom period starting in September to continue to provide a supportive school environment and assist students in building relationships and developing in the areas of emotional growth and mindfulness.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the McAuliffe School and our programs.
