Fall 2021 Principal Message

Fall 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are midway through the first marking period and I would like to take this opportunity to share what we have accomplished thus far and what lies ahead.  Overall, students and staff are as back to normal as we can hope for this year.  In walking the halls and visiting classes, we see active learning taking place. Students are working collaboratively and creatively in their classes using technology to accentuate their academic instruction. Teachers are embracing and incorporating meaningful dialogue in the Student Advisory periods as well as in all of their classes throughout the day helping to establish and to foster positive relationships with students.  To help us monitor academic skill levels in math and literacy specifically, we are implementing an iXL program many of you may be familiar with from the elementary division.  This is an interactive program that will help teachers and students identify strengths and weaknesses in math and literacy skills and target those areas which need support and improvement.

Outside of the classroom, clubs and sports are meeting and preparing for an exciting school year.  We are currently preparing for our annual Run for Vets program in November and are looking forward to celebrating our Veterans.  We are also excited for our first McAuliffe Fall Fun Day, a series of outside competitions and games to have some fun, work as a team and show our school spirit. We celebrated Week of Respect in early October with a series of activities, presentations and challenges throughout the week.  We will continue to promote respect for one’s self, school and each other throughout the school year through programs, assemblies and activities.  Sports teams have been practicing and competing all Fall.  Students are competitive and demonstrate good sportsmanship in all competitions.  We continue to wish them well as we approach the end of our seasons.

Our parent organization, the School and Home Association, is up and running again.  We are actively planning to host a school Gift Auction in the new year.  We will have our next meeting virtually on October 26 at 7pm.  Check out the SHA Facebook page for more information and how to login. We can use all the help we can get!

Please keep an eye out for information on our webpage or through my weekly email blasts about how to schedule a Parent/Teacher conference in November.  Conferences will be held on November 16, 17 and 18 and the evening of November 16.  Information on how to sign up will be sent out in early November.  Parents will have the option for an in-person meeting or a virtual conference.

As always, we encourage parents to reach out to administration, teachers and counselors if there are any problems or concerns you or your child are experiencing.  We are here to provide insight and guidance and will continue to work with you for the best interest of your child.  It is our pleasure working collaboratively with our parents and community for the betterment of our children.

Yours in education,

Debra Phillips
