July 23, 2020: Important Changes to School Calendar - First Day of School for Students is Now Sept. 8

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL CALENDAR CHANGES

FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

July 23, 2020

Dear Parents and Staff,

As we continue preparations for the coming school year, we are committed to providing our staff with the proper preparation time to ensure a safe and successful start to the 2020-2021 school year. We have altered the school calendar to allow additional time for scheduling and to conduct training so that we are fully ready to receive students.

At its July 22 meeting, the Board of Education approved a change to the district calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.

In this calendar, Oct. 12 and Feb. 2 Professional Days are now moved to September, meaning Oct. 12 and Feb. 2 will no longer be a day off for students.

This means:

  • All school staff will report Sept. 1 - 4 (paraprofessionals will report Sept. 1 and 2)
  • The new first day of school for all students will be Tuesday, Sept. 8 (the day after Labor Day)

Reminder:

The week of July 27 we will be releasing our Framework for Reopening Our Schools, which will explain our school schedules and instructional and safety plans.

After you receive that information, we will be asking parents to make a choice about whether their children will be attending schools in accordance with those plans, or selecting an all-remote option. We will also be asking staff to inform us of any accommodations that they will be requesting.
