Principal Message- September 2022

Dear Elms Family,

We at Elms are so excited to welcome you back to school and to the first days of September!

We want to extend a Tiger’s Paw and warm welcome to our new and returning students, their families, and dedicated staff.  The new school year is off to a great start filled with energy, anticipation, and optimism. We had the opportunity to visit all the classrooms and meet the students that make Elms Elementary such a special place.  The children looked happy and excited.  Thank you students, for the warm welcome and the happy smiles!

We would like to thank our custodial staff for doing an excellent job these past few weeks preparing the building after the Extended School Year program.  Thank you to our committed teaching and support staff for all their excitement and dedication in creating engaging classrooms to provide supportive learning opportunities.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we will have Awareness day on Tuesday  September 13th- we invite everyone to wear Gold/Yellow to help us raise awareness.

The Elms PTN is always looking for parent participation!  We encourage all of our community to join our very active Parent-Teacher Network.  Our collective mission is to enhance and support our children’s educational experience. There are multiple opportunities throughout the year with many jobs of all sizes and shapes that are essential to the success of our school. Parents can help out by volunteering for an event or committee.  If you’re not sure how to become involved, please ask—we’d love to have you!

PTN membership dues go to support our many cultural arts programs and assemblies for ALL students in our school.  PTN meetings are held each month and are open to all. The first meeting of the year is Wednesday, September 16th @ 9:30 AM in the Elms Media Center. Please join us as the home-school partnership is vital to the success of all our learners.

In September, Elms will conduct our first fire drill for the year.  A variety of safety drills will continue to be implemented regularly throughout the year.  Such drills foster student safety and are important to practice regularly. In an effort to provide the safest environments, nothing is more important that maintaining an open line of communication between home and school. In that light, parents should be sure to complete their emergency contact information in detail.  It is important to include trusted adults in the “emergency contact” area of the portal.  This information is invaluable when an unforeseen circumstance occurs.

Please be aware that, as in the past, no parent will be allowed to cross the bus ramp from 8:55-9:05am (student arrival).  This is a safety procedure. A staff member will be stationed at the parking lot to let you know when it is again safe to cross the bus ramp. We appreciate your cooperation and efforts to keep our students safe.
