Dear Elms Families:
With the holidays rapidly approaching, let us be the first to extend to you and your family a warm Season’s Greetings.
American Education Week: It was wonderful to see so many parents and friends during American Education week. On behalf of the Elms Staff, we thank you for taking the time to meet with your child's teacher and for visiting our school. Maintaining and strengthening the home-school connection is a key to success.
Merry Mural Night: Elms’ second MERRY MURAL CONTEST will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016. The Merry Mural Contest is a fun-filled family night for our Elms’ students and their parents! Each family team will have an opportunity to create their very own “HOLIDAYS IN THE MOVIES” mural. The Merry Mural Contest is a window/wall decorating contest. This year, the theme is “Holidays in the Movies”. Each mural should reflect your family’s favorite holiday movie. Families may want to include their favorite characters, settings and/or scenes from a holiday movie. Be as creative and artistic as you wish.
All families must pre-register to enter the Merry Mural Contest. There is a Merry Mural Pre-Registration Form that is due to school no later than Monday, November 28, 2016. As a registration fee, we are requesting that each family donate a new, unwrapped toy, gift card, or children’s book. The item should be unwrapped and brought to school with you on December 1, 2016.
If you cannot attend Merry Mural Night but would like to donate to the toy drive, please send the new, unwrapped toy to your child’s teacher by December 7th. All donations will be donated through the Elms PTN to the Chase Ryan Olsen Foundation and C.H.O.P. We look forward to kicking off the holidays with you!
Safety & Security: The safety and security of our children and our school is our primary concern. Regularly, we facilitate a number of safety drills in an effort to be prepared for any type of circumstance. In the month of November, students and teachers have engaged in three types of drills including bus evacuation, fire drill, and lock down drills. Furthermore, on November 1st, Jackson Police representatives and district officials provided a dynamic professional development workshop for staff designed to enhance the Elms’ protocols for safety drills.
Thank you to all student, teachers, and parents for helping to continue to make Elms Elementary a safe place for our learners. We look forward to working in partnership to provide the safest and healthiest learning environment for our students. With this thought in mind, please know your input is important to us and helps shape the Elms School Community. Please find the survey link below. We encourage you to share your thoughts. Please know the survey will be closed on December 8, 2016 and will be reviewed thereafter.
Book Fair & Paint Night: Elms’ Book Fair and the PTN’s 1st Family Paint Night was a huge success. Our community truly appreciates Ms. Danielle Fernandez and Mr. Trevor Bryan’s leadership in implementing this new innovating family experience. Thank you also to Jennifer Sauikie, Lori Schindler, Lisa Brooks and all of our parent volunteers for a well run Book Fair event. We pride ourselves as a “Community of Readers” and the Book Fair supports our school goals and our love for reading!
Please contact the school directly if you have any questions. We will be glad to assist you.
