A Message from the Principal

Dear Elms Families:

The month of September found us renewing old friendships, making new ones, and welcoming several new families to the Elms School community. Due to the collective positive energy of students, parents, and staff, the school year is off to a great start!

I would like to thank all the families who attended the Elms Back to School Night events.  The Back to School Nights were a great success! Your support and involvement are essential to the educational process. The attendance was simply overwhelming, and it was a pleasure to meet so many of the Elms parents. At Elms, we truly believe that we are a family, all working together to help each child to achieve and succeed. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support.

In that light, please be sure to support the PTN. Their support for all of our learners is evidenced and demonstrated in all that they do for our school and school community.  Visit their link on the Web Page.  You can support Elms PTN in many ways. We look forward to 100% membership!

Parents commonly ask how they can help their child with homework. Here are some subtle suggestions to assist students with the homework process. Parental supervision of homework is recommended and typically very effective. Simply providing a good place to study enhances the learning process. Be sure to block out distractions for learners (i.e. turn off the TV, radio, etc.) Read and review assignments with your child or have them read and review with you.

Safety:  Elms conducted our first two safety drills for the year.  The students did a fabulous job.  A variety of safety drills will continue to be implemented regularly throughout the year.  Such drills foster student safety and are important to practice regularly. Thank you, students, for a job well done! In an effort to provide the safest of

environments, nothing is more important than maintaining an open line of communication between home and school.  In that light, parents should log on to their Portal and make sure all information is correct. This information is invaluable when an unforeseen circumstance.

Our first PTN Meeting: Wednesday, September 28th @ 9:30am in the Elms IMC.  All are welcome!

Summer Reading

We continue to be amazed by the time and effort spent by our students on their summer reading.  The district projects are proudly on display in our classrooms and the summer reading logs have been collected, compiled and are ready to be rewarded!   All students who turned in their log will be rewarded with an ice cream treat and the possibility of winning one of our fantastic prizes, donated by the ever generous Elms PTN.

Cancer Awareness: Elms continues our support to fight against cancer. Thank you to all of our students and staff for participating in GOLD day to raise awareness for childhood cancer. Elms truly is a community that cares. Mark your calendar – Wednesday, October 19th we will wear PINK to raise awareness for those fighting breast cancer.

Please contact the school directly if you have any questions. We will be glad to help you. On behalf of the entire Elms staff, we look forward to working together to help your child achieve their hopes and dreams.

Sincerely,

Michael Burgos
