Principal's Message

May 11, 2018

Dear Johnson Families,

Good afternoon, I hope everyone had a great week. We just finished up the Literacy section of the PARCC testing for grades 3, 4 and 5 and began the Math section of PARCC today.  Testing will continue for the next two weeks.  April was Autism Awareness month and we celebrated with a live performance from Three-Time Grammy Nominee for Best Children’s Album, Brady Rymer.  The Love Me for Who I Am assembly was a fantastic performance and the students all joined in singing and dancing.  Our school also raised over $1200 for Autism NJ through the sale of inspirational bracelets.

We would like to thank the PTO for hosting the Talent Show on April 13th and the Color Run on May 3rd.  Both events were wonderful for our Johnson families and staff.  Everyone had a lot of fun!  The PTO also hosted the lunchtime Book Fair BOGO this past month.  This week the PTO held the Mother’s Day Plant Sale.  The students enjoy picking out plants for the important women in their lives.  We are also looking forward to HCJ’s night at the Blue Claws. This event is always a lot of fun and I am sure it will be equally as great this year.

Our Kindergarteners enjoyed their trip to the Howell Living Farm and did a great job performing songs that celebrate the environment in honor of Arbor Day. Our third grade classes, Mrs. Woolverton’s class and Mrs. Rodriguez’s class had a great day at the Franklin Institute.  Thanks to the PTO for sponsoring all of these wonderful trips.  Our first grade classes visited Adventure Aquarium on Thursday, May 10th, our fourth grade class will be visiting Washington’s Crossing on May 17th and our fifth grade, Mrs. Karvitz’ class, Mrs. Beline’s class and Mrs. Morrow’s class will be visiting the Turtle Back Zoo on June 7th. We also have our Safety Trip to the NJ State Police Barracks and the 5th grade student orientation at Goetz Middle school coming up.

On Thursday, May 17th, our school will be hosting our Art and Writing Expo.  The event will take place from 6:00-8:00pm and you will be able to view a sample of your child’s artwork as well as a published piece of writing.  Please join us to honor your child’s hard work. Mr. Jakalow will be holding the game days for grades 3, 4, and 5 beginning May 30th.  Keep an eye out for all of our upcoming events on the HCJ and PTO websites.

Just a reminder, we have a shortened day on Friday, May 25th and school is closed on Monday, May 28th for Memorial Day.

If you are moving during the summer and will be transferring your child(ren), please contact the main office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM. If you are moving within the Jackson School District, you will need to sign an Internal Transfer Form and provide proofs of your new residency before your child’s records can be transferred.  If you are moving out of the Jackson School District, you will need to sign a Student Transfer Verification Form.  A transfer card and a copy of your child(ren)’s health records(s) will be provided to register at a new school. The following information is needed to complete the transfer card:  new home address, new school name, and the new school address.
