Principal's Message, February 15, 2019
February 15, 2019
Dear Johnson Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the week . Today, we recognized students who demonstrate good character during our Monthly Assemblies and Lunch with the Principal. We also celebrated our 100th day of school. It’s hard to believe we are more than half way through the school year! Congratulations to our 5th graders for an excellent chorus performance on January 18th!
Just a reminder, school is closed on Monday, February 18th, for President’s Day.
This year Johnson School is once again celebrating Read Across America with our annual “Storybook Character Day”. All students and staff are invited to join in the fun by coming to school dressed as their favorite book character on Wednesday, February 27th.
Our Spring Pictures are right around the corner on March 8th. Flyers will go home the week before. The PTO will host the Mother/Son Game night at Crawford-Rodriguez Gymnasium that night. We can also look forward to the Spring Book Fair from February 25th through March 1st.
Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be taking place March 18th – March 22nd from 9:30am to 11:30am. If you have a child turning five years of age on or before October 1, 2019, registration packets are available online or at the school. Please contact Johnson to schedule an appointment for the week of registration. To pre-register and print out the necessary paperwork, please visit the link below.
Don’t forget that EVERY Friday will now be Johnson Spirit Day! Show your Johnson pride by wearing Johnson spirit wear or red and black every Friday!
I would like to thank Mrs. Glushko for organizing our “Souper-Bowl” event. We asked each student to bring in a can of soup and place it in the “TEAM BIN” of who they thought would win the Super Bowl. We received over 450 cans and all donations were delivered to the Jackson Food Pantry.
Of course, much appreciation to the PTO for hosting Bingo Night and the Sweetheart Dance. It is great to see everyone come out and enjoy the events. The PTO also held a book drive for Operation Paperback who received a request for Lakehurst Elementary School. They lost all of their classroom and library books when the school was temporarily closed. We had an overwhelming amount of donations.
It’s wonderful to see our community support!
PTO GENERAL MEETING WEDNESDAY, FEB 20 @ 9:45 AM: At our March PTO General Meeting, Dr. Genco, Superintendent of the Jackson School District, will be present to discuss the impact of significant cuts in state funding to the district, what is being done to address these cuts, and what parents can do about the situation. This is critically important information that everyone will want to know, as these cuts will significantly impact the education of our children in the very near future. We will also be discussing recent PTO donations to the school and upcoming events. And the Mighty Mugs trolley will be at the meeting, offering hot chocolate for $1 with the proceeds benefiting the care of Mighty, our school Therapy Dog!
SPRING BOOK FAIR IS COMING FEBRUARY 25-28! Check your child's class page for their day and time. Come out for Family Night at the Book Fair on Wednesday, February 27 from 6-9 PM for book shopping and the ice cream social from 7-8 PM.
BOOK DRIVE A SUCCESS!! Thank you for your generosity during our Book Drive for Lakehurst Elementary School! We collected over 1600 books to replenish their school and classroom libraries after they lost all their books due to an environmental issue at the school. The books were delivered just before Valentine's Day and they were so thrilled to receive so many terrific books for their pre-K through 8 students. In addition, the PTO donated $500 Scholastic Dollars to the school so their media specialist can select books and educational items they need.
