Principal's Message, March 13, 2019

March 8, 2019

Dear Johnson Families,

I hope everyone is adjusting to the time change.  Now we just need the weather to get warmer. Last week we celebrated Read Across America with our annual “Storybook Character Day”. All of the students and staff looked great dressed as their favorite book character!

Thank you to the PTO for hosting the Spring Book Fair and Ice Cream Social and the Mother/Son Game Night.  Students were able to shop for books during the school day at their scheduled time or on Wednesday night.

District Museum Night will be at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 14th at JLHS.  This event will showcase students’ artwork entitled:  Celebrating Cultural Diversity.  There will be over 500 pieces of art from every grade and every school in the district.  We hope to see you there.

Just a few reminders, Goetz Parent Orientation for incoming 6th graders will be held on Wednesday, March 20th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Goetz IMC and the District Elementary Spelling Bee is scheduled for Thursday, March 21st at 6:30pm at JMHS.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be taking place March 18th – March 22nd   from 9:30am to 11:30am.  If you have a child turning five years of age on or before October 1, 2019, registration packets are available online or at the school.  Please contact Johnson to schedule an appointment for the week of registration.  To pre-register and print out the necessary paperwork, please visit the link below.

Don’t forget that EVERY Friday will now be Johnson Spirit Day!  Show your Johnson pride by wearing Johnson spirit wear or red and black every Friday!

Gertrude Hawk orders are due Friday, March 15! Delicious chocolate and candy treats for the spring holidays!

Deadline for yearbook boosters is Friday, March 15! You don't have to be a 5th grader -- anyone can submit a booster to congratulate their student on their accomplishments this year! Forms went home earlier this year, but extras are available in the lobby.

5th graders, you MUST have your yearbook baby picture and activities submitted by Friday, March 15! Please don't miss this deadline, as that makes it more difficult for our volunteers to put together the yearbook.

Johnson's Got Talent on Friday, March 29 and 7:00 PM in the JMHS auditorium! Come out to support your friends as they show their stuff singing, dancing, playing an instrument, and more! Ticket order forms and booster order forms will go home next week!

It's time to show our teachers and staff the love! Teacher Appreciation Luncheons are Monday, April 1 through Thursday, April 4. Please sign up to provide a delicious dish for our hardworking staff! You do not have to home cook -- store-bought is just as appreciated!

Italian Day, Monday, April 1

Dessert Day, Tue, April 2

BBQ Day, Wed, April 3

Dessert Day, Thu, April 4

Blue Claws Night is Friday, April 5! It's going to be a fantastic one because it's opening weekend! Come support our 5th grade as they sing God Bless America and cheer for our Teacher of the Year (Mrs. Beline), our Educational Services Professional of the Year (Mrs. Stilwell), and our retiring staff (Ms. Don, Mrs. Frasier, Ms. Davis, and Ms. Schwiner) as they throw out first pitches! Oh, and there's gonna be a baseball game, too. And fireworks! Ticket order forms go out next week!

Color Run is Thursday, April 11 at 4:45 PM! This event is one of our most fun events of the year -- kids love going in clean and coming out a rainbow! Watch your child's backpack for the registration form! This year, the Color Run is raising money to install water filling stations in the school!

BOGO Book Fair is April 9-11. This is a great chance to stock your home library as your young readers keep improving their reading skills! Send in money any day and your child will visit during their lunch period.

The Mixed Bag fundraiser is coming March 18! It's a great way to replace your worn out shopping bags and lunch bags, and treat yourself to something new! Watch your child's backpack for the catalog.

A Night at the Races is coming Friday, May 17 at Southard Fire Company No. 1! Ticket order forms will be out very shortly, but mark your calendars now! You won't want to miss this fun night of horse racing action, fantastic gift auction prizes, special games, a Derby Hat Contest, dinner, dessert and more! We are playing it cool with hot racing action to raise money for shade and amenities for our playground!
