Dear Johnson Families,


Good afternoon, I am sure everyone is looking forward to a wonderful spring break and hopefully some warm weather.  This past month we had many activities scheduled at Johnson.  The PTO hosted the Talent Show on March 29th, HCJ Blue Claws Night on April 5th and the Color Run on April 11th.  All of these events were wonderful for our Johnson families and staff.  Everyone had a lot of fun!  The PTO also hosted the lunchtime Book Fair BOGO this week.  The children were able to visit the Book Fair during their scheduled lunch. 

Kindergarten Registration took place during the week of March 18th.  If you were unable to register your child that week, please contact the main office to schedule an appointment. 

I want to thank the PTO for sponsoring our grade level assemblies and trips.  In March, our 2nd grade classes visited Insectropolis and our 3rd grade classes went to the Franklin Institute.  This week our 4th  graders visited Washington’s Crossing and our 1st grade classes traveled to Adventure Aquarium.   Next week our third and fifth grade classes will enjoy a laser show by Prismatic Magic.  We also have several class trips scheduled in May and June. The PTO is sponsoring a Food Drive from Monday, April 15th thru Wednesday, April 17th

Just a reminder, we have a 1:55pm dismissal on April 18th and school will be closed for Spring Break from April 19th to April 26th .  We return to school on Monday, April 29th

When we return from Spring Break, Mrs. Donnelly and Mrs. Ehlers will be hosting our Young Authors and Artist’s Night on May 2nd from 5:30 to 6:30pm.  You will have the opportunity to read and view our student’s most prized published pieces and artwork.  We hope to see you there!


Student Placement

At this time of year, many parents call or write to the school regarding their child’s class placement for next year.  The ultimate goal of the placement process is to find the best possible match between what is best for the student and what the strengths of each teacher are.  Class placement is a complex process that involves the input of many educational professionals and considers many factors.  I realize and appreciate your concern, but I will not honor parent requests for particular teachers.  I do, however, value your input and individual concerns for your child.  I will consider any concern or input that you have to offer, if you provide your concern in writing to me before May 3rd.

Please let me explain some of the factors we need to consider in the placement process.  In making class placements, some variables carry more weight because of requirements due to special needs and State statutes.  It takes approximately six weeks to organize classes based on many factors.  Some placement factors are: student emotional needs, academic needs, social needs, occupational and physical therapy scheduling, classroom structure, class/grade population, resource instruction, interaction with peers, speech instruction scheduling, special education inclusion scheduling, child study team placements, balance between boys and girls, medical needs, neighborhood conflicts, former teachers of siblings, remedial reading instruction scheduling, access to special programs, present teacher’s input, and administrative input.

In conclusion, your input as a parent will be considered if you send it to me, in writing, before May 3, 2019.  This will allow the educational professionals sufficient time to find the most appropriate match for your child.  As always, I appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

A Night at the Races is Friday, May 17! Ticket sales for our gift auction are in full swing! Remember that the first 75 people to register get a sheet of prize tickets for free, so get your orders in before Spring Break! The PTO is also accepting monetary and prize donations, and we also have sponsorships and program ads available for local businesses. Contact for more information. Spring Food Drive is next week, April 15-17. Please send in your donations to help fill our neighbors' tables for the holiday. Please refer to the letter sent home for suggested donations. Thank you!

Spring Box Tops Collection May 1-31. Last Box Tops drive for the year! Send in your Box Tops to earn money for our school. Raffle forms will go home and be available online in May. The top 3 classes with the most Box Tops submitted win an ice cream or cupcake party!

Spring Plant Sale May 8-10. Just in time for Mother's Day, we will have bright and colorful flowers for sale! Check your child's page after break for their sale date and time. We will also have after-school sales hours one day. More information coming soon.

Blue Claws Night: Despite the not-so-great weather, our 5th graders had fun singing and our honoree teachers did a great job throwing out their first pitches! If you purchased tickets, hang on to the stubs (if you attended) or the tickets (if you did not) because, due to the inclement weather, Blue Claws will allow you to exchange the stubs/tickets for tickets to another Blue Claws game this season. Contact the box office to exchange your tickets.
