Preparing for November Break:
Information About NJ Travel Advisory and JSD Essential Staff Designation
Dear Jackson Families and Staff,
As we prepare to be on break for the week of Nov. 2 - 6, it is important that we all continue to follow the health and safety practices outlined by the state of New Jersey and the CDC during the time schools are closed and in the weeks when we return.
In preparation for this break:
- We informed our staff and families of the NJ Travel Advisory that expects compliance with 14-day quarantine requirements when traveling to certain areas;
- We strongly discouraged any non-essential staff travel due to the potential negative impact it could have on our ability to remain open and operating; and
- We required our staff to inform us of any travel arrangements that would require a 14-day quarantine so we can plan accordingly.
We have worked to arrange for coverage for any absent staff in our classrooms and in other departments to ensure safe operations when we return from break. This letter is to advise you that in some positions we may need to invoke the provisions set by the federal and state government that allow education workers to be classified as essential “Critical Infrastructure Workers,’’ which would allow them to work through certain conditions such as a travel advisory. If this is necessary, we would continue to maintain strict adherence to health and safety protocols such as social distancing, wearing of face coverings and ensuring staff are symptom-free.
We are committed to being open and transparent as we navigate this pandemic together and do what is best for our students and staff. We believe these safeguards will allow us to safely welcome students and staff back on Nov. 9. We hope you enjoy a restful break and we look forward to seeing you upon our return.
