Principal Message - September 8, 2017
Dear Elms Family,
We at Elms are so excited to welcome you back to school, and to the first days of September.
The new school year is off to a great start. We had the opportunity to visit all the classrooms and meet the students that make Elms Elementary such a special place. The children looked happy and excited. Thank you, students, for the warm welcome and the happy smiles! I also want to thank the custodians for doing an excellent job these past few weeks preparing the building for opening day.
Before we get into upcoming events, let me take this opportunity to introduce our new Assistant Principal, Shawn Levinson. Shawn is a former Jackson teacher and lead teacher, and comes with extensive knowledge of both the district and education. He is excited to be here and we welcome him and his enthusiasm!
Safety: This coming week, Elms will conduct our first fire drill for the year. A variety of safety drills will continue to be implemented regularly throughout the year. Such drills foster student safety and are important to practice regularly.
In an effort to provide the safest environments, nothing is more important that maintaining an open line of communication between home and school In that light, parents should be sure to complete their emergency contact information in detail. It is important to include trusted adults in the “emergency contact” area of the portal. This information is invaluable when an unforeseen circumstance occurs.
PTN: The Elms community is committed to providing every child the opportunity to excel academically, physically, and socially. We know that we can achieve this through developing a strong partnership among school personnel and student. Elms Elementary has the ongoing tradition of supportive, hard working parents. Parents are invited and encouraged to further that partnership in a variety of ways. We encourage all parents to become involved with Parent-Teacher Network. Our collective mission is to enhance and support our children’s educational experience. Please join the PTN and please support the many events they coordinate including classroom support, working the supply cart, volunteering for an evening event, attending American Education Week, and the many opportunities to contribute and participate in school events. Please mark your calendar: our first PTN meeting is scheduled for September 20th at 9:30pm in the Elms IMC.
Back to School Nights: Back to School nights provide parents an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher, gain an understanding of the curriculum, and learn about the procedures of the school. Please mark your calendars. All sessions will begin at 7pm; please report directly to your child’s homeroom.
