Principal's Message - September 2018

Dear Elms Family,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! We at Elms Elementary are so excited to welcome you back to school and to the first days of September! We extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students, their families and dedicated staff. A new school year brings with it renewed energy and a sense of optimism and excitement.

The new school year is off to a great start.  We had the opportunity to visit all the classrooms and meet the students that make Elms Elementary such a special place.   Thank you, students, for the warm welcome and the happy smiles!

We also want to thank the custodians for doing an excellent job these past few weeks preparing the building for opening day. Thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff for all their enthusiasm and commitment in preparing their classrooms to provide engaging and supportive learning opportunities.

Elms Elementary Back-to-School Nights will be held on the following nights

  • Thursday, September 20th - PreSchool at 5:30pm
  • Thursday, September 20th- Kindergarten, Grades 1-2 at 7:00pm
  • Thursday, September 27th - Grades 3, 4, & 5 at 7:00pm

There you will have an opportunity to hear about some of our programs and begin forging that all-important relationship with the classroom teacher, as well as learn about the grade level curriculum, specialists, classroom technology, and other educational activities. We have so much to be proud of at Elms School and, working together, we will continue to create and foster an inclusive, dynamic and caring school community.

We look forward to a successful school year and greeting you at Back to School Night!

PTN membership dues go to support our many cultural arts programs and assemblies for ALL students in our school.  PTN meetings are held each month and are open to all. The first meeting of the year is Wednesday, September 26th @ 9:30 AM in the IMC. Please join us as the home-school partnership is vital to the success of all our learners.

Attention Kindergarten, First Grade and New Parents to Elms: Our Parent Teacher Network is looking forward to this school year  and would like to invite you to a breakfast on Friday, Sept. 21 from 9:30-10:15am. We hope you can join us for refreshments, get to know the PTN board, and ask any questions you may have. Please RSVP by Sept. 18th if you can attend. RSVP-Invitations can be found in the e-backpack available on the Elms website. We hope to see you there!

Safety: This month, Elms will conduct our first fire drill for the year.  A variety of safety drills will continue to be implemented regularly throughout the year.  Such drills foster student safety and are important to practice regularly. In an effort to provide the safest environments, nothing is more important that maintaining an open line of communication between home and school   In that light, parents should be sure to complete their emergency contact information in detail.  It is important to include trusted adults in the “emergency contact” area of the portal.  This information is invaluable when an unforeseen circumstance occurs.

Please be aware that, as in the past,  no parent will be allowed to cross the bus ramp from 8:55-9:05am (student arrival).  This is a safety procedure. A staff member will be stationed at the parking lot to let you know when it is again safe to cross the bus ramp. We appreciate your cooperation and efforts to keep our students safe.
