Elms Principal Message - November 2018

November 2018

Dear Elms Families,

Thank you to all of our families who came out for the trunk or treat event!  It was a great success.  The trunk decorations were awesome to see.  Looking forward to next year! Congratulations to our Decoration Winners: 3rd Place: the Martz family; 2nd Place: the Metelsky family; and our 1st place winners: the Garofalo family!  Great job one and all!

Food Drive
We also wanted to celebrate the wonderful amount of donations collected for the Jackson Food Pantry. Families donated food as an entrance fee for Trunk or Treat. The volume collected was amazing to see. We are so happy to donate to the Jackson Food Pantry and proud to be part of such a caring community.

Candy Drive
Elms is proud to announce that we will be facilitating a Candy Drive starting Monday, November 5th until Wednesday, November 14th. Candy donations will be collected by the Elms PTN and sent to active members of the armed forces. If you have candy to donate, please send it in with your child or drop it off when you come to the school for conferences.

Girl Scouts
The Elms Brownie troop 50566 and Mrs. Thrift’s Switlik brownie troop 50284 came together last week to help clean-up the Elms Learning Garden. The girls harvested the last of the vegetables and herbs left in the garden and donated them to the local soup kitchen “Bread from Heaven”. They planted lettuce, kale, spinach and broccoli in the vegepod and hope to donate what they grow to the soup kitchen.  Thank you, scouts, for your community spirit!

Join the PTN
Please consider joining the PTN.  Anyone who turns in their forms to the PTN by November 30th will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card.  Forms for memberships are available on the online ebackpack.  Just print and send in with your child.

4th Annual Gift Auction
The PTNs annual Gift Auction will be held Saturday, November 3rd, 4pm at Elms Elementary.  Get ready for a night of fun and prizes!  Don’t forget to bring your snacks, as no food or drink will be served at this event.  Any questions can be emailed to the Gift Auction committee at

Jackson School District Special Question on School Security Nov. 6
As we discussed last year, on Nov. 6, the Jackson School District is asking voters to decide on a Special Question to hire six additional security guards to provide optimum security coverage. Our goal is to provide you with INFORMATION to make an informed choice and to let you know of the opportunities to ask questions or provide feedback, including a public forum at the Oct. 16 Board of Education Meeting (6:30 p.m. at JMHS).

Please view our page on the district website for more information, including what we are proposing and why, how much it will cost, how you can register to vote and/or vote by mail if you wish.

(Remember, IF you want to cast a ballot on this or any other item on Election Day (Nov. 6), you must be a registered voter. The county must receive your voter registration form by Oct. 16. All forms and deadlines are available on our site.)
