Principal Message - December 2019
Dear Elms Families,
All of us here at Elms wish our community a very happy new year! This is a time for friends and family, and we wish you all the best in 2020. Thank you for helping to make Elms the warm and open community which makes us all proud.
On December 6th, the Elms PTN hosted its annual Winter Fest at the Elms School from 6-8pm. Games, Crafts, Bake Sale, Hot Cocoa Bar, a performance by our very own Encore Ensemble, and so much more were offered to all involved. Thank you to all of our PTN volunteers for their efforts in making the school look so festive!
Please be sure you are ready to access your child’s report card on the district portal website. Report cards will be available on the portal to parents on January 3rd. Also, please remember that if your Portal log-in does not work, please try the “Forgot My Password” link above BEFORE contacting support, as most issues will be resolved through that feature. Please note that the “Forgot Password” link will work only with parents who have an e-mail as their login ID. For questions or problems with your login ID’s or password (or if you do not have them), please send an email to email@example.com and include your name and phone number, as well as your child’s name, school, grade, student ID number and the problem you are experiencing and we will respond to you as quickly as possible.
In November Kindergarten was visited by Jenkinson’s Aquarium Penguin Program. The staff at Jenkinson’s do a great presentation for our Kindergarten students. It is a favorite every year, but that could be just because the students love to see the penguin walking around! Parents who participated in American Education Week for Kindergarten were lucky enough to see it this year.
A big thank you to the Elms PTN for funding the Franklin Institute Assembly on December 4th. K-3 students saw a demonstration on “Weather”. What an amazing show! The presenter made a cloud appear in the middle of the gym. The students were blown away! Grades 4 & 5 saw “Motion and Machines” and were riveted. Thank you to Mrs. Konopack, Elms Media Specialist, for coordinating this event.
American Education and Conference Week
We thank you for visiting us during American Education Week and Conference Week, and for being a part of our school initiatives and programs. On behalf of the Elms School staff, we thank you for taking the time to meet with your child’s teacher and visiting our school. As you continue to work with your children and reflect on their progress, please keep in mind that daily instruction is critical to their academic achievement. While attendance is important on a daily basis, their timely arrival each day is also a significant factor for their success. We will continue to work in partnership with your children each and every day, so they can work and learn to the best of their abilities. Maintaining the home-school connection is the key to success.
Breakfast with the Principal
At Elms, we make it our priority to recognize students for demonstrating strong and positive character. Our character education initiatives promote, model, and recognize students that strive to make Elms a welcoming, rewarding, and safe environment. Our PAWS-itive Program encourages students to grow and develop into upstanding community members. Elms’ faculty are asked to fill out PAWS-itive Behavior Coupons to acknowledge students who are respectful, caring, trustworthy, fair, and responsible citizens in school. The slips are brought down to the guidance office mailbox for both weekly and monthly recognition. Students who are selected weekly will receive a certificate, small prizes, and photo. Students who are recognized as leaders in character are invited to Breakfast with the Principal monthly for continuing to demonstrate kindness and integrity. Our goal is to create a positive culture for our students and school.
Yearbooks are still on sale via yearbookforever.com. Enter the school name to find ours. Order by December 31st, and the price is $25. January 1 the price goes up to $30.
Join the PTN
There’s always time to join the PTN. Forms for memberships are available on the online ebackpack. Just print and send in with your child.
Presents for Pets:
Please join us this holiday season as we support the JLHS and the JMHS Interact Clubs who are gathering donations for the local Jackson Animal Shelter. Donations can be dropped off in the Elms vestibule.
As we approach the new year, it is a natural time for reflection. Here at Elms we take pride in supporting the needs of our community. Please consider taking a few moments to complete the linked survey. Your input is valued, appreciated, and considered as we plan and prepare our educational programming for the months and years ahead.
