January 25,2021-Principal Message

Dear Elms Families,

It is hard to believe that this unprecedented 2020-2021 school year is at the halfway point! Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this unfamiliar, educational landscape.

Meet the Author

We are excited to announce that children's author and illustrator Daniel Jude Miller is coming to Elms for a virtual author’s visit. He will be sharing his tips on writing a great story, creating drawings, and much more. If you would like to attend, please see the information below.

February 2nd - Grades K-2, 6pm - 7pm

February 4th - Grades 3-5, 6pm-7pm

All families are welcome to  join on either night, but please note that Tuesday night is geared towards a Kindergarten to 2nd grade audience and Thursday night will be more for the grade 3-5 audience.

The link for the Meet will be available on the Media Classroom page on the day of the event.

For more fun and free projects, visit “For autographed copies of Jude Miller’s book, use code “school” at checkout”.

Picture Day!!

We are pleased to tell you that students’ picture day has been scheduled. Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, February 17th and Thursday, February 18th. Hybrid students will have their picture taken during the school day. An email was sent to all remote student parents to sign up for a time on the sign-up genius. We can’t wait to see all of the smiling faces of our students!!

Elms “Soup-er Bowl”  2021

Predict the winner & help your local community at the same time! Elms will be collecting donated food items between Monday, January 25th and Friday, February 5th. Please help the Jackson Food Pantry by bringing in any non perishable food items such as pasta, canned goods, soup, and tuna fish. Additionally, the Food Pantry is in need of “cleaning product” donations. Students may vote by placing the donated canned items in the team bin of their choice. The bins will be located in the vestibule and decorated with the colors of the playoff division winners. Thank you for your consideration.

Attention all remote students: The team bins will be available to you in the front vestibule area from the hours of 9:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m beginning Monday, January 25th thru Friday, February 5th. We would love you to participate and cast your vote!

Snowman Contest

Congratulations to all of our PTN Snowman contest participants. All of our students did an amazing job! The creativity of our designers was outstanding! Students can view all the creative entries in the Media Center and the grade level winners are on display on the school website carousel. Thank you to all of our participating students.

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. History.  At Elms Elementary, we are excited to celebrate Black History Month as we plan engaging activities to supplement our curriculum during the month of February.

Spelling Bee

Elms Elementary will hold our annual Spelling Bee beginning January 27. Fourth and fifth grade students have already taken the qualifying test to determine if they are eligible to participate in the Elms School Spelling Bee. Congratulations to our 30 top spellers!

Following the school spelling bees, the six spelling bee champions will then move on to the next level, which is the Scripps Regional Bee, held on March 22, 2021. Due to COVID restrictions and for the safety of our learners, there will not be a district-level spelling bee, but the 1st place winners of each school bee will move on to the Scripps event if they wish to participate. Parents/Guardians of the school champions will be contacted through Scripps about their child's participation in the March 22 event. Thank you for your interest in this event. Good luck to everyone who is participating.

Please contact the school directly if you have any questions. We will be glad to help you.

Warm Regards,

Michael Burgos                                       Shawn Levinson
