    Cell Phone and Smartwatch Use Guidelines– “Off and Away”

    To ensure a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment, the following policy applies to all students in grades PreK through 4 regarding personal electronic devices, including cell phones, “Smartwatches”, and “Smart” devices.

    Expectations

    • All student cell phones and smartwatches must remain “off and away” during school hours, including classroom time, specials, lunch, recess, and hallway transitions.

    • Devices must be powered off and kept in a backpack upon arrival and throughout the school day.

    • Smartwatches may not be used for texting, calling, games, taking photos/videos, or accessing the internet while on school grounds. They are ONLY permitted to be used as a timekeeping or medical device. They must be kept in the school mode or school time feature during the school day OR stored in a backpack.

    • Any device that becomes a distraction or is used during school hours (goes against the above) will be confiscated by school staff for the day. In the event of a second offense, the device will be held in the main office and the parent/guardian will be contacted.

     Repeated Violations

    • First offense: Verbal reminder; Device turned off and returned to backpack.

    • Second offense: Device confiscated by school staff and held in the main office for the remainder of the day; parent contacted.

    • Third offense: Device held in main office; Parent/guardian required to pick up device; Further disciplinary action may be considered per district guidelines.

    Emergency Contact

    In the event of an emergency, parents should contact the main office directly. Students will NOT be permitted to use personal devices to communicate during the school day.
