Principal's Message, February 2024

Dear Johnson Families,

It is hard to believe, but we are already halfway through the school year!

To beat the winter blues, students and staff had a blast this month on Snowman Day and Lego Day! Pictures of the fun can be found on the Johnson webpage.

Our 5th graders rocked it at the recent chorus concert. Johnson families enjoyed some inspirational songs that encouraged students to “Never Give Up”! under the direction of our music teacher Ms. Mason.  After some technical difficulties at the start of the show, the resulting performance was an example of what our students can accomplish when they persist and focus on the goal!

Students who participated in this year’s Intramural Basketball program were invited to play in the district’s second annual Intramural Basketball Showcase on January 25th in the Jackson Liberty HS Gym.  Our teams displayed their skills and sportsmanship on the court. Well done!

Congratulations to the winner of this year’s Johnson Spelling Bee Shlok S!  Shlok and Analise S. went head to head for several rounds in a tough competition with Shlok winning in Round 25 with the word “slakes”.  They will be joined by the other top 5 spellers, Alyssa S., Gabe R. and Jonathan R. in the district Spelling Bee on March 19 at Liberty High School. Congratulations and Good Luck!

PRESCHOOL LOTTERY - Jan. 19 - Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.

The Jackson School District will be holding a Pre-School Lottery Jan. 19 - Feb. 10 to offer open spots to residents interested in the district's FREE Preschool Program for the 2024-2025 school year. The preschool lottery form will be available after 9 a.m. on Jan. 19 on the district website at www.jacksonsd.org/preschool. The lottery sign up form closes at 4 p.m. on Feb. 10. Respondents will then be contacted according to their lottery positions to be offered a spot in the district's preschool program.

In an effort to help our community, Mrs. Glushko, Ms. Cook and Mrs. Fucito’s class will be collecting cans of soup for our annual “Soup-er Bowl” event.  Each student is asked to bring in a can of soup and place it in the “TEAM BIN” of who they think will win the Super Bowl.  This is a fun way for our students to learn the importance of helping others.  All Donations will be delivered to the Jackson Food Pantry.  Thank you very much for all of your support.  Donations will be accepted from Monday, February 5th until Friday, February 9th.

Check your local grocery stores for canned good sales!

Thank you for your support.

The countdown to the 100th Day of School continues! Johnson students will be celebrating 100 Days of Being Kind on February 14th wearing red, pink or Valentine messages.

Our 100th Day of School falls during Random Acts of Kindness Week February 12-15. Students and staff will be sharing kindness with others around the building and with the following themes organized by our guidance counselor, Mrs. Ciaccio.

Kindness is Cool-Random Acts of Kindness Week is a celebration of all the ways we can become a positive influence in each other’s lives. At Johnson, we believe kindness starts with one, and there is no "one" better than our students.  As a parent or guardian, you can encourage kindness at home. You have the power to set a kind tone for your entire household. There's never been a better time to infuse more kindness at home. Please check out these resources to discover fun ways to spread kindness.
