Principal's Message, February 2023

Dear Johnson Families,

It is hard to believe, but we are already halfway through the school year!

To beat the winter blues, students and staff had a blast on Snowman Day!  Pictures of the fun can be found on the Johnson webpage.

Our 5th graders rocked it at the recent chorus concert. Johnson families enjoyed a trip down memory lane as the students performed their parents’ favorites from the past under the direction of our music teacher Mrs. O’Keeffe.  The resulting performance was an example of what our students can accomplish when they work together toward a common goal. Well done everyone!

At the end of January, all our 4th and 5th graders participated in the spelling contest.  On February 1st our top 30 contestants competed in the school level Spelling Bee.  Congratulations to this year’s top 5 spelling finalists: Jackson Redwood, Francesco Murruni, Charlotte Setteducato, Alyssa Somers, and Myles Messinger. A very special congratulations goes out to this year’s champion, Jackson Redwood! All 5 contestants will represent Johnson in the District Spelling Bee.

The countdown to the 100th Day of school continues!  Johnson students will be 100 Days Brighter on February 14th for the 100th Day of School.  Light it up with NEON and Bright Colors!

In an effort to help our community, Mrs. Glushko & Miss Carollo's class will be collecting cans of soup for our annual “Soup-er Bowl” event.  Each student is asked to bring in a can of soup and place it in the “TEAM BIN” of who they think will win the Super Bowl.  This is a fun way for our students to learn the importance of helping others.  All donations will be delivered to the Jackson Food Pantry.  Thank you very much for all of your support.  Donations will be accepted from Monday, February 6th until Friday, February 10th.

*Please do not send any cans in until Mon, Feb. 6th.*

Check your local grocery stores for canned good sales!

Thank you for your support.

Students who participated in this year’s Intramural Basketball program are invited to play in the district’s first annual Intramural Basketball Showcase on February 13 at 4:00 in the Jackson Liberty HS Gym.  The event is free and all families and students are welcome to attend.  Come out to cheer on our team!

All of the school’s Educators of the Year will be recognized at the February 15 at 6:00 Board of Education Meeting.  You are welcome to come help us celebrate Johnson’s honorees Brittany Angiolini and Debra Mooney!

Johnson students and staff will observe Random Acts of Kindness Week February 13-17 by sharing kindness with others around the building and with the following themes organized by our guidance counselor, Mrs. Ciaccio.

Kindness is Cool

Random Acts of Kindness Week is a celebration of all the ways we can become a positive influence in each other’s lives. At Johnson, we believe kindness starts with one, and there is no "one" better than our students.  As a parent or guardian, you can encourage kindness at home. You have the power to set a kind tone for your entire household. There's never been a better time to infuse more kindness at home. Please check out these resources to discover fun ways to spread kindness.
