Principal's Message, May 2023

Dear Johnson Families,

It may be hard to believe, but the summer is right around the corner and the school year is quickly coming to an end.  We have some important work still to be done and many great activities planned for our students.  Please help your students to manage their busy schedules, get enough rest and put forth their best efforts in school.  This includes their academic responsibilities as well as appropriate behavior.

Thank you to the PTO who organized our Teacher Appreciation Week for our fabulous staff.  Our teachers are hard-working and dedicated to our Johnson students and families.  Please take a moment to express your gratitude for their efforts.  Your kind words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!

NJSLA Testing for Grades 3-5 will begin on May 9 and continue through May 24.  You are encouraged to visit the district's Understanding Assessments and Grading” resource page for more detailed information and a full testing calendar. You can assist us in preparing your child for testing by ensuring your child is on time for school, well-rested and has a healthy breakfast each morning.  Students must bring a FULLY CHARGED Chromebook for testing EVERY day.  Cell phones and Smart watches are PROHIBITED during state testing.  These devices must be turned off and stored in students’ backpacks.

Johnson Elementary students and staff will observe Neurodiversity Awareness Week May 15-19 with theme days and activities. The purpose of this week is to help our students to understand, value and celebrate the talents of neurodiverse minds. It aims to increase acceptance and understanding and provide resources and other tools to support neurodivergent thinkers.
