  • Jackson School District Strategic Planning, Redistricting and Restructuring

    OCTOBER 1, 2024

Significant budget challenges, enrollment changes, class size inequities, increasing student needs and the condition of our aging facilities require us to analyze our district’s mission and goals and establish clear priorities to move the district forward. As communicated to you after our Aug. 22, 2024 Board of Education meeting, we are doing some Strategic Planning to prioritize our needs in the areas of budget, facilities, programs, and student activities.

While still operating within the limitations of our ongoing funding/budget crisis, our goal is to make key decisions about how to:

    • Address class size inequities among grade levels
    • Ensure all students have access to the same academic and extra-curricular opportunities as their classmates
    • Rectify serious facility needs that impact student learning

Solutions must be considered within the context of 1) what is best for students; 2) what is possible given our ongoing budget crisis, and 3) the conditions and capacities of our facilities. They may involve:

    • Redistricting our enrollment areas (e.g. where certain neighborhoods attend school),
    • Redistributing/Restructuring grades (e.g. altering what grades go to what schools) and/or
    • Designing an affordable facility improvement plan to support student needs.

Please know we realize that change is hard. However, our budget constraints and the changing composition of our schools - meaning how many students in certain grades attend schools throughout our very large township - has created inequities that must be addressed in order to be fair to all students.

We are at the beginning of this process. This page will feature updates as they emerge.
