Principal's Message, January 29, 2021
Dear Johnson Families,
Good afternoon, it is hard to believe we are already almost half way through the school year. I would like to acknowledge the continued hard work and patience demonstrated by Johnson students, families and staff these past months as we continue to work together to help our Johnson students be safe and successful.
IMPORTANT: Daily COVID Health Screening
In order to maintain a safe environment for all students and staff, parents/guardians must remember to complete a daily COVID Health Screening Form every day that a student will be attending school in person. This form must be filled out each morning by the parent on the Parent Portal. Now that we are in a new phase of providing education with synchronous learning if habitual offenders continue not to fill out the form you may be asked to have your child join school from home.
Kindergarten Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will be taking place during the months of February and March by appointment only. If you have a child turning five years of age on or before October 1, 2021, you can pre-register online or pick up a registration packet at the school. Please contact Johnson to schedule an appointment for February or March.
School is closed on Monday, February 15th in observance of President’s Day.
Congratulations to all of our spellers for making it to HCJ’s Spelling Bee! That is a big accomplishment and each student should be very proud of themselves. All of our students did amazing! The results were very close and we have three spelling finalists: Danaca Daddio, Gianluca Vassiliou and Ryan Gunderson. These students will advance to the tiebreaker on February 1st and the winner of this tiebreaker will represent HCJ at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, held on March 22, 2021. Due to COVID restrictions and for the safety of our learners, there will not be a district-level spelling bee, but the 1st place winners of each school bee will move on to the Scripps event if they wish to participate. Parents/Guardians of the school champions will be contacted through Scripps about their child's participation in the March 22 event. Good luck to everyone who is participating.
If your child missed Picture Day and Retakes, Balfour, our Yearbook company, will be sending you an email with information on how to include your child’s portrait in the yearbook.
In an effort to help our community, Mrs. Glushko’s class will be collecting cans of soup for our annual “Soup-er Bowl” event. Each student is asked to bring in a can of soup and place it in the “TEAM BIN” of who they think will win the Super Bowl. The collection will take place between Tuesday, February 2nd, and Friday, February 5th. In order to follow the health and safety guidelines, TEAM BINS will be placed outside the school’s front doors for our Remote/Synchronous students from 9:30am to 1:30pm and 2:15 to 3:45pm. TEAM BINS will be inside for our Hybrid/In-Person students at their scheduled time. All donations will be delivered to the Jackson Food Pantry. Friday, February 5th, is Team Jersey Day & JEANS DAY!
Valentine’s Day will be here soon! Unfortunately, we will not be able to celebrate with parties in the classroom. However, if you would like to send in a Valentine for each student in the class with no food or candy they will be distributed by the teacher. Valentines are due to the teacher no later than February 5th so we can properly quarantine them. Please seek further instructions from your child’s teacher.
