Principal's Message, March 2021
Dear Johnson Families,
I would like to thank our students, families and staff for the smooth transition of our In-Person Hybrid students returning to 5 days this week. It takes all of us working together to keep our Johnson students safe and successful. Please continue to complete your Daily COVID Screenings on the Parent Portal every morning. Completing the form on the Parent Portal will help your child avoid a visit to the nurse’s office and phone calls home. If a paper copy of the form is needed, please inform your child’s teacher and we can provide it to you. Now that our students are back 5 days, teachers will only use synchronous learning if a child is on quarantine or a child is home sick and arrangements were made with the teacher ahead of time. Otherwise, if a child misses in-person instruction the child will be marked absent.
One Book One School is a new program designed to create a shared reading experience across an entire school community. We will provide every student with a copy of the book we are reading. The program will start on Monday, March 15th. Our In-Person students will receive their book Friday, March 12th, and our Remote students are invited to pick up their book the week of March 8th between the hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm. All students will follow our reading schedule which will be sent home with the book. Each night trivia questions will be posted on the Johnson homepage. Students that answer the trivia questions will be entered for a chance to win a small prize. Stay tuned to the Johnson homepage for more information regarding our One Book One School program.
This year we are celebrating Read Across America with our first ever StoryWalk. You're probably wondering what a StoryWalk is..... "StoryWalk is an innovative and delightful way for children — and adults! — to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story." Our students were able to check out Johnson’s StoryWalk the last two weeks. What a great way to get outside and enjoy some reading!
