COVID-19 Human Resources Info for Staff
Below are some key resources to help our staff understand the laws and regulations regarding COVID-19 accommodations and paid and unpaid leave options.
Families First Coronavirus Response Act: Questions and Answers from the U.S. Dept. of Labor
The Jackson School District recognizes that some staff members are at a greater risk for severe illness when they return to work under the District’s plan to reopen with students on campus. In order to address the needs of these staff members, reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) identifies as having a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. The CDC identifies these conditions via this link: People with Certain Medical Conditions.
In order for the District to consider making any possible accommodations, it is the responsibility of the staff member to report their medical condition and their desire to seek a reasonable accommodation if possible, such as a remote working assignment, strategic scheduling, personal protective equipment, physical barriers, etc.). We have emailed an accommodations form to all of our staff members. This form must be filled out by all staff members (even if they are not requesting an accommodation) and is due back by July 31.
The Jackson School District Human Resources Department will work collaboratively with any staff member seeking a leave, in order to assist them in making a determination that is best suited to their individual situation.
If the District is unable to provide a reasonable accommodation to a staff member with a documented COVID-19 related underlying health condition, then the staff member should consider a paid or unpaid leave option, outlined via the links below:
