• Welcome to Ms. Weaver's Kindergarten Class!
    2023 - 2024

Hello Kindergarten Families! I am so incredibly excited about starting this school year with your child! I hope you all had a fun, relaxing and safe summer break! Kindergarten is such a rewarding and fun grade to teach. I love being able to watch my students grow and witness all the amazing things they will do over the year! There are so many fun adventures ahead, and I am so happy that I can be part of such a huge milestone in your child's life!
Over the course of the year, your child will be learning letters, sounds, and how to read and write. Your child will also learn math, science, and social studies.
    Thank You,
    Ms. Weaver 😊

    Class Page

Thank you for visiting our class page. Please visit our class page each week for an update on school events, classroom events, and updates to our weekly curriculum. The weekly curriculum will include skills and strategies introduced in Literacy, Math, and Social Studies/Science (we will alternate between Social Studies & Science units).

    Google Classroom

Students are REQUIRED to join my Google Classroom, as it will be used for important information regarding our classroom activities. Students' chromebooks will be distributed during the first week of school, and they should already be logged into my Google Classroom, as well as the Unified Arts/Specials teachers' Google Classrooms. In the event that your child is not connected to my Google Classroom when they come home with their chromebook, please use the following steps to have them join:
***An invitation for my Google Classroom will be sent to student's Google accounts prior to the beginning of the school year.***

How To Join My Google Classroom
    1. Log on to your child's chromebook (usernames and passwords will be sent home on a sheet and will also be on a sticky note on the chromebook itself as well).
    2. Open up your child's email.
    3. Find the Google Classroom invitation email from me and click "join".
    4. Make sure you can see "Ms. Weaver's Kindergarten Class". If you can, your child has successfully joined my Classroom!

How To Access My Google Classroom
Please use the steps below to access my Google Classroom once invited:
    1. Log onto your child's chromebook (usernames and passwords will be sent home on a sheet and will also be on a sticky note on the chromebook itself as well).
    2. Go to the waffle (9 dots in the corner of the screen) on the Google screen.
    3. Click on "Classroom" and find Ms. Weaver's Kindergarten Class!
***Please be aware that students will be receiving new usernames and passwords during the first week of school to log onto their chromebooks. If your child had a username or password from a previous year, it will no longer work for this year.***

The Elms PTN will be providing each student with an Elms folder that your child will bring back and forth to school from home in their backpack. This folder will be used as a tool for us to communicate daily. Each day, your child will bring home this folder. If there is a need to send anything back to school, it will come home in the "Return to School" side of the folder. Homework is one example of something that would be in the "Return to School" side. Anything that comes home on the "Leave at Home" side of the folder can stay at home. Any notes from home to school regarding dismissal, lunch money, or any correspondence should be put in the folder on the " Return to School" side.  Thank you in advance for your support, as I believe a good parent-teacher relationship is so essential for a successful school year. You are always welcome to contact me!

If you signed out a chromebook for your child please keep the chromebook at home once you recieve it (except for when students need to bring it on Wednesdays for technology).  However, there is a small list of items that I am asking parents to send to school with their child during the first week of school. The following items are:

Literacy: We use a terrific phonics program called Fundations. In class, students will work on letter identification, sounds, and letter formation. At home, they can practice by tracing letters with their fingers, starting at the top and going down. As they finish tracing the letter, they can practice saying the letter name, the keyword picture and then the sound.  For example, Tt, top, /t/.   Additionally, we will be learning 2-3 new trick words each week. These words are trick words that we can not sound out. In the coming weeks, I will be sending home fun ways to practice reviewing these words at home!
Writing: Writer's Workshop is a designated time where students become “authors”. After each mini-lesson, students will have independent writing time where they will choose their own topic for their writing and have an opportunity to practice skills and strategies taught in the mini-lesson. By giving the students choices in their topics, the writing becomes authentic, engaging, and meaningful. During this independent writing time, I will meet with individuals or small groups to conference and encourage their growth as authors. Students will learn to write, revise, edit, and publish stories throughout the school year.
Math: Envision 2.0. At the beginning of each topic, we will send home a parent information home page along with our math vocabulary words.  You can keep these at home to use for review.  After each lesson, we will send home the corresponding homework page to complete at home.  These pages are meant to be done with help and returned only if noted.
Social Studies & Science: Science and Social Studies will alternate thematic units. These units of study will be incorporated throughout our entire school day!

    Happy Birthday:
