Dear Chorus Parents and Guardians,
Greetings from the JMHS choir room, where we are all very busy preparing for our upcoming fall and winter performances! It was great to meet some new parents at Back to School Night, and catch up with those who have been actively supporting our program for these past years. At this time, I would like to bring everyone up to date on our upcoming performances.
- Our first performance will be on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 here at the JMHS Auditorium. The choir will perform as part of our annual "Broadway Night," a variety show/fund raiser which will feature soloists and groups performing songs and scenes from Broadway musicals. The tickets for Broadway night are $5.00, available in advance or at the door. The show starts at 7:00 PM, and proceeds benefit our Chorus activity fund. This chorus performance is a mandatory event for all Choir and Concert Choir members. Students should arrive for the performance no later than 6:00PM. The show will be over at or before 9:00PM. For this performance, all Choir members will wear our traditional black choir robes, which will be provided. Students are not permitted to wear sneakers or jeans with the robes. Please wear dark colors, preferably black and dark shoes with the robes for performance.
- Our Winter Choral Concert will be held on our stage Tuesday evening, December 14, 2021 at 7:00 PM. This is our second mandatory performance of the year, and all chorus members are required to attend. There is no admission cost for this concert, which will feature our Choir, Concert Choir and some soloists performing holiday and seasonal music. The students should arrive no later than 6:00 PM. Attire will be the same as our Broadway night, which is the traditional choir robes.
A Note about Mandatory Performances: The third and final Mandatory concert event is Wednesday, May 25, 2022, our Spring Choral Concert at 7:00PM. As stated in the curriculum and the course description for Choir and Concert choir, all students are required to attend three (3) performances each school year. Each performance carries with it a 100 point test grade. Students who do not attend the required performances will receive a grade of “0”.” Students are not excused from attendance, and no makeup work will be offered. In the event of serious illness or emergency, please contact me as soon as possible.
We have lots of great music to come for the 2021-2022 school year, with a possible spring trip and festival, our spring musical, “Big Fish,” our spring Talent Show and Spring Choral Concert. As always, thank you for your continued support of music programs at our school and throughout the Jackson school district. Feel free to give me a call or email (best way to get in touch) if you have any questions or concerns.
