Colonel Jonathan Spare

I'm Colonel Spare, the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, a.k.a. the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) Instructor, for Jackson Memorial High School. While I'm new to the Jackson School District, I've been teaching AFJROTC since 2015.  I retired from the Air Force in 2014 after a 30-year career of both active duty and reserve service.  I also flew for American Airlines for over 20 years, my last crew position being an Airbus A320 captain.  I enjoy bringing my breadth of experience to the classroom to educate and inspire my students in aerospace and leadership.

For the school year 2022 - 2023, we'll be studying from the Air Force provided textbook, "The Science of Flight, a Gateway to New Horizons."  This component of the course will introduce students to the principles of flight, or simply put, how airplanes fly, and how weather conditions affect flight, flight and the human body, and flight navigation. The course is designed to complement materials taught in math, physics, and other science-related courses and is aligned with the National Science Education Standards, the Math Standards and Expectations, and ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students. For this school year we will focus on how airplanes fly and how weather conditions affect flight.

Much of the course material,to include textbook reading, associated articles, supplemental videos and assignments, will be posted on Google Classroom.  I require the students to join; the classroom code is "qhcamb7."  Parents and guardians are invited to join as well.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.  Please email me at jspare@jacksonsd.org

I'm looking forward to an exciting and productive  school year.
