COURSE DESCRIPTION

Honors English 1 (0100) is a rigorous course designed for accelerated and highly motivated ninth-grade students.  The course consists of challenging coursework which requires extensive reading and highly developed communication skills. The study of literature is combined with extension and refinement in the areas of writing, speaking, listening, and viewing.  Our semester includes short stories, poetry, Romeo and Juliet, The Freedom Writers Diary, and Of Mice and Men, and an independent read and study of Great Expectations and Lord of the Flies.
