Words Their Way
This year we are using Words Their Way. You child will bring home a green folder with ablue pencil case with their word sort and a journal in which they will do their homework. A homework sheet will come home explaining what they are responsible for. They will have 7 days to complete the homework assignment. They are to hand it in on the day of their assessment.
We will be continuing to do Reader's Workshop model this year. Students will be exposed to a wide range of authentic literature, and will work with books that are considered to be at "just right" level in order to help build fluency and comprehension. Students will learn comprehension strategies during whole group and small group instruction, and will apply their understanding in a variety of ways. The Reader's Worksop facilitates an environment of strong independent thinkers and readers.
We are currently starting our nonfiction unit in Reader's Workshop.
We will be starting Topic 5.
