Welcome to Lucy N. Holman Elementary School

  • On behalf of Holman Elementary School and the Jackson School District, I am proud to share the many ways our school provides meaningful learning experiences for all students. Holman is deeply rooted in a tradition of academic excellence, and we take great pride in the positive and nurturing environment that characterizes our school community. By teaching our children to think and dream, we continue to create lifelong learners prepared with the skills needed for success in any path they choose to pursue.

Our highly qualified teachers bring enthusiasm, creativity, and expertise to the classroom each day. With their dedication, lessons come to life in ways that are engaging, child-centered, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of our learners. Technology integration is a priority across content areas, giving students the opportunity to develop strong digital literacy skills and preparing them for the demands of today’s world.

In mathematics, students learn through hands-on lessons, manipulatives, and process-based activities that deepen their understanding of concepts and strengthen their problem-solving abilities. The EnVision Math curriculum also provides digital resources, tutorials, and assessments that support instruction and empower learners.

In literacy, we are excited to launch our new HMH Structured Literacy curriculum, grounded in the Science of Reading. Structured literacy is a research-based approach to reading and writing instruction that is explicit, systematic, cumulative, and diagnostic. It focuses on foundational language skills, including phonology, sound-symbol association, syllables, morphology, syntax, and semantics, helping students build automatic word recognition and strong comprehension. With this approach, every student is supported in developing the skills necessary to become a confident and capable reader and writer.

Equally important to our academic programs is the strong sense of community that defines Holman Elementary. Our active Parent Teacher Network (H.O.P.E.) enriches school life by organizing family activities, cultural arts experiences, and volunteer support. This partnership between students, staff, and families is essential to our success and strengthens the vibrant school culture we are proud of.

Together, we are a united team, continually striving to provide the very best educational practices and experiences for each and every child. The dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the enthusiasm of our students ensure that Holman remains a place where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

    Respectfully,
    Shawn Levinson
