Welcome to Mrs. McHugh's 2nd Grade Class!
As you all know, starting March 1 Group One and Group Two students will be learning in person from 8:35 am to 1:15 pm. I am looking forward to adding more smiling faces to our classroom! Please see the information below about important changes/notices. Also, as always, please be sure to check our Class Dojo for up to date information about our class.
Communication is key so please remember I am always only an email or a phone call away. You can reach me by emailing at email@example.com or by leaving a message in the office at 732-833-4620.
Since there will be more students in our classroom it is very important that your child comes to school with a well fitted mask--one that securely covers both their nose and mouth. Please continue to send in extra masks for your child as well. If possible, I would appreciate it if you can review proper mask wearing etiquette and social distancing rules with your child at home. I will certainly be reinforcing those guidelines in school each day to allow this to be a safe learning environment for all.
HEALTH AND SAFETY IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY
**Daily health forms should be completed each day the student is attending in-person learning**
The success of advancing to this stage in our reopening process requires all of us to do our part. The safety of our students and staff must come first and we must ALL remain vigilant in our health and safety protocols.
Keep your children home if they are sick.
Keep your children home if anyone in your household has tested positive OR is experiencing COVID-compatible symptoms.
Keep your children home if anyone in your household is awaiting a test result for COVID.
Remember to truthfully fill out your Daily COVID Health Screening Form for your child each day.
Remember to contact your school nurse if anyone in your house has been exposed to COVID, has COVID-compatible symptoms, or is being tested.
Starting on Monday, March 1, the students will be allowed to have a quick snack during the school day. This snack break is only going to be 10 minutes, please keep that in mind when packing the snack. Our snack time is from 10:15-10:25. Please do not send in a snack that requires prep (peeling or slicing). The snack should be healthy, filling, and easy to eat. Some suggestions are:
Also, please send in a water bottle with your child, so they can have a drink with their snack. We are not able to use the water fountains.

*Students must attend all Google Meet sessions with me when they are on a remote learning day.*All Google Meet Sessions will be held at 2:05. Students join the meet by going to our Google Classroom and clicking the "Meet Link" in the top left corner of the page.Attending these meetings are REQUIRED and count as your child's attendance for that day.Please go over all Google Meet Protocols listed below with your child prior to joining their first Google Meet session with us:Parents are required to complete this short check each morning via the Genesis Parent Portal and report their child’s information at least 30 minutes prior to the school reporting time for school.
**If the answer to any of these is YES, the parent must not send their child to school**
SECTION 1: Symptoms
If your child has any of the following symptoms, that indicates a possible illness that may decrease the student’s ability to learn and also put them at risk for spreading illness to others. Please check your child for these symptoms:
*Temperature 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth
*New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline)
*Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
*New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
SECTION 2: Close Contact/Potential Exposure
*Had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with a person with confirmed COVID-19
*Traveled to or lived in an area where the New Jersey Department of Health is reporting large numbers of COVID-19 cases as described in the New Jersey Travel Restrictions
All students were loaned a chrome book the week of August 24 for at home use. Chrome books will be traveling both to school and home with the students daily. While in school, student chrome books must never be left unattended.
Please see some general precautions in regards to chrome books below:
-No food or drink is allowed next to your Chromebook. Chromebooks are not permitted in the cafeteria.
-Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted carefully.
-Students should never carry their Chromebook while the screen is open.
-Chromebooks should not be open or used while walking through the halls.
-It is suggested that you purchase a protective case.
-Do not expose your Chromebook to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Extreme heat or cold may cause damage to the laptop.Always bring your laptop to room temperature prior to turning it on.Chrome Book Care:
-Do not lean on top of the Chromebook.
-Do not place anything near the Chromebook that could put pressure on the screen.
-Do not poke the screen.
-Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, notebooks).
-Clean the screen with a soft, dry anti-static, or micro-fiber cloth. Do not use window cleaner or any type of liquid or water on the Chromebook. You can also purchase individually packaged pre-moistened eyeglass lens cleaning tissues to clean the screen. These are very convenient and relatively inexpensive.
-Chromebooks include serial numbers and barcode stickers that must remain on the device. These stickers are important for inventory and insurance purposes.
-Do not place any additional stickers anywhere on the Chromebook.
-Do not write or mark the device for any reason!
-Any student choosing to break these rules could be subject to forfeiting their Chromebook privileges.

Mrs. McHugh’s Special Schedule
Students will be meeting with their special area teachers in person. These classes will meet consecutively for 15 days before moving onto a different special area class. With the exception of gym, specials will be taking place in our classroom.

Sprinkle kindness like confetti! In our classroom we try our hardest to be bucket fillers everyday. We can fill each other's buckets by giving compliments, being kind and considerate of each other's feelings, and never allowing someone to be left out! How have you filled someone's bucket today?
