If it is a Fiction story, you child should be able to tell about the characters, setting, main events and retell the story (what happened first, next, and last.)
If it is a Nonfiction story, they should be able to give 2-3 facts about the topic they are reading about
Ask them to point out their favorite, or least favorite, page, picture, or character. Then ask them why they chose that particular one.
Thank you so much for all of your cooperation and patience during this time. We are a great team and together your children will continue to learn and grow in kindergarten!
Scholastic has come up with a great program to incorporate some reading and with activities as a follow up for the Kindergarten level. They have both fiction & non-fiction stories available!!Click below for the link.
Welcome to Kindergarten!
Kindergarten is such an exciting year! This year will be filled with learning, fun, and special times. I am very happy to be sharing this year with you and your child. Please be sure to check our class page weekly to see all of the things we will be discussing and learning this year in our class.
The only thing your child will need to bring to school is a backback that is large enough to hold a standard size folder and lunchbox. If your child is buying lunch, please use the link to the lunch account to put money in (https://www.jacksonsd.org/Page/7449). I do request that you have a pencil, crayons, scissors, and a glue stick at home for homework. I will provide your child with everything else that they will need.
This website will be an important tool for both the students and parents throughout the year. Please check this page weekly to see what skills and concepts we will be working on as well as any special announcements.
