Things for you to do at home to help your child

Please continue to practice all of the sight words that are listed on the High Frequency Word section of our class page.

Practice How To Writing-include transition words such as first, second, next, then, third, finally, last

Practice Fast Facts (addition problems with sums up to 5)

Practice counting and writing numbers 1-20

Read books from their red reading bags and fill out the reading log found on the assignments page  *Please stop and ask questions throughout your child's reading.

If it is a Fiction story, you child should be able to tell about the characters, setting, main events and retell the story (what happened first, next, and last.)

If it is a Nonfiction story, they should be able to give 2-3 facts about the topic they are reading about

Ask them to point out their favorite,  or least favorite, page, picture, or character. Then ask them why they chose that particular one.

Thank you so much for all of your cooperation and patience during this time.  We are a great team and together your children will continue to learn and grow in kindergarten!

Scholastic has come up with a great program to incorporate some reading and with activities as a follow up for the Kindergarten level.  They have both fiction & non-fiction stories available!!

    Welcome to Kindergarten!

Kindergarten is such an exciting year!  This year will be filled with learning, fun, and special times.  I am very happy to be sharing this year with you and your child.  Please be sure to check our class page weekly to see all of the things we will be discussing and learning this year in our class.

The only thing your child will need to bring to school is a backback that is large enough to hold a standard size folder and  lunchbox.  If your child is buying lunch, please use the link to the lunch account to put money in (https://www.jacksonsd.org/Page/7449).  I do request that you have a pencil, crayons, scissors, and a glue stick at home for homework.  I will provide your child with everything else that they will need.

This website will be an important tool for both the students and parents throughout the year.  Please check this page weekly to see what skills and concepts we will be working on as well as any special announcements.
