CLASS POLICIES

Grading Policy: ENGLISH DEPARTMENT POLICY

50% Assessment (Tests, quizzes, written assignments)

30% Homework (Submitted assignments done in class or at home)

20% Class Participation (Present, prepared, participating)

Marking Periods 28% each, Final Exam (Authentic Assessment) 16%\

Late Work Policy: SUBMIT WORK ON TIME

Many assignments will be started (and possibly finished) in class.

You will be notified of due dates/times for each assignment, and it will also be posted in Google Classroom.

Late classwork/homework assignments will be accepted one day late for half credit. After that, it is a ZERO (unless otherwise notified).

Larger assignment late penalties will be posted along with the assignment.

Make-Up Policy: COMPLETE AND SUBMIT MISSING WORK ASAP

You have day-for-day to make up work from absences. (i.e. If you are out two days, you will have two days to submit the missing work.)

You should use Google Classroom to stay up-to-date with assignments (especially with extended absences).
-
It is YOUR responsibility to arrange a time to make up any tests/quizzes, etc. that cannot be completed outside of the classroom.

You should come to class EVERY DAY with:

A CHARGED Chromebook

School-issued Chromebooks are required for this class.

Your independent reading book

The text we are currently reading in class

Headphones (compatible with your Chromebook)

Once class starts, you may NOT leave to retrieve missing supplies.

Consistently coming to class unprepared will result in a deduction of class participation points.

Plagiarism Policy: DO NOT SUBMIT WORK THAT IS NOT YOURS

Plagiarism=Academic Integrity Write-Up & ZERO

This includes plagiarism/cheating of ANY KIND, including AI.

Cell Phone Policy: NEW DISTRICT POLICY
-
Cell phones will be put into assigned pockets upon entering the classroom.

Phones will STAY in the phone caddy until the end of the period.
-
You WILL NOT be permitted to take your phone to the restroom.

Failure to comply with this new procedure will result in progressive discipline.

First Offense: Warning

Additional Offenses: Referral to VP

Non-operational (decoy) cell phones will be deemed as a refusal and result in discipline.

Dress Code Policy: DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR AN ACADEMIC SETTING

Hallway Policy: BATHROOM, NURSE, and OFFICE/LIBRARY ONLY

All other issues should be addressed during Common Lunch.

You are permitted to leave the classroom only when absolutely necessary.

Daily use of the pass/leaving the room for extended periods of time will result in pass privileges being revoked.

You may only leave the room with the proper pass, and you may NOT leave if the appropriate pass is not currently available.

Trip Policy: SUBMIT (at least) ONE DAY IN ADVANCE

Trip Slips will only be signed if you are currently passing the class.
