November Principal's Message 2022

Dear Holman Families:

Wow!  It was wonderful to see so many family members at the Holman Trunk or Treat event.  Over 100  families were in attendance.  Parents, students, and staff all had a great time getting candy, listening to seasonal music, eating pizza and snowcones, and talking to one another.  It was good to get together again as a community and celebrate like we used to.

As the parent-teacher conference days approach, I hope that you will have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher regarding their academic and behavioral progress so far this school year.  Conferences are an important component to ensure that the school and the home work together to maximize your child’s full potential. Although there are no other official conference days during the school year, I encourage you to stay in close communication with your child’s teacher and, most importantly, to stay involved in their education.  Whether through a phone call, an email, or a note in the planner, the Holman staff is ready to help.

This year, Holman Elementary WILL NOT be a voting facility on November 8th.  Thank you to Mrs. Pormilli, Ms. Richardson, Mrs. Crate, the Ocean County Clerk’s Office, and all other people that helped to make this important decision become a reality.

Holman Elementary School will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 10th, 2022 and Friday, November 11th, 2022 for the New Jersey Teachers Convention.

During American Education Week, you will have an opportunity to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher(s).  Please make sure that you sign up for a conference (either in-person or virtual).  Also, rather than hosting twenty minute visits during that week for parents, I have asked every teacher or grade level team to host at least one instructional event (Wax Museum, Reader’s Celebration, Author’s Tea, etc.) during the year so that parents can participate and interact with their children rather than sitting in a classroom watching a teacher instruct the children.  I look forward to seeing you at these wonderful events throughout the year.

November is a time intended for giving thanks.  Please ask your child what they are doing to support this important character trait.  How are they showing thankfulness and appreciation?  We are very fortunate to have a school community with a nurturing staff, happy students, and caring parents.  Happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy your Thanksgiving Recess with friends and family!

Sincerely,

Rich Karas
