November Principal's Message
November 2017
Dear Holman Families:
November is a time intended for giving thanks. Please ask your child what they are doing to support this important character trait. How are they showing thankfulness and appreciation? I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for taking the time to read with your children, checking homework, communicating with your child’s teacher and countless other things you do as a parent or guardian to encourage and support the education of your child. We are very fortunate to have a school community with a nurturing staff, happy students, and caring parents.
Congratulations to H.O.P.E. for sponsoring another successful Fall Harvest Festival on Thursday, October 19th! Cicconi Farms was packed with excited students and parents eating, taking a hayride, and playing various fall-themed games. Thank you to all for your generosity and participation. It was so nice seeing everyone at this fun family event.
October 31 – Students may dress up for Halloween. Please see rules regarding costumes :
Please mark your calendars for our next HOPE meeting which will be held at 7:00pm in the APR on Tuesday, November 7th. We look forward to seeing you there!
***IMPORTANT: At this time, parents must utilize the Portal system to schedule a conference with their child’s teacher. Availability is based on a first come, first served basis. If you have not done so, please schedule your conference by Friday, November 3, 2017. For detailed instructions, see our Conference Scheduling Instructions. If you have not completed the online forms in the Portal, you will not be able to schedule a conference. Please make sure that all four on-line forms in the Portal are completed. Once finished, you will be able to schedule a conference. As always, I encourage you to please check the school webpage, including the Principal's Message, continually for any updates on this and other important events and activities.
American Education Week will be held the week of November 13th. Parents are cordially invited to visit their child's classroom only during the scheduled times. The days and times for classroom visitation are as follows:
- Monday – November 13th Grade 3 & 5 @ 9:30 – 10:00/ Coffee w/Administration @ 10:00AM
- Tuesday – November 14th Grade 4 @ 10:15 – 10:45/ Coffee w/Administration @ 10:45AM
- Wednesday – November 15th Grade 1 & 2 @ 9:30 – 10:00/ Coffee w/ Administration @ 10:00AM
- Thursday – November 16th Grade K@ 9:30 – 10:00/ Coffee w/ Administration @ 10:00AM
We are continuing to use the Envision 2.0 math series this year.. There are great online resources available. Please log on to the website with your child to review what he/she has learned at school.
The directions are as follows:
- Website: www.pearsonrealize.com
- At the Pearson sign in page – click the box that says Pearson EasyBridge Plus & Auto
- Where it says choose your district – type and select: JACKSON TWP SCHOOL DISTRICT – INT
- Username: Student ID #
- Password: First name (first letter must be capitalized) + grade level - (Example: Mark01 ***Kindergarten students must put KF as the grade after the name.)
Please adhere to rules on the large sign on Manhattan Street that identifies the Holman School. As the sign states, parents may not enter via Castle Avenue during the unloading and loading of busses (8:25am - 8:55am) and (2:30 - 3:15). You must use the Beam Avenue entrance, park in the SOUTH LOT (the area on the right hand side of the school near the football field) and walk to the main entrance of the school. Thank you for your cooperation.
Looking and Planning Ahead:
Brain Boosters begin on Tuesday, October 10th. This program is held after school from 3:00-4:00 PM. Students not taking the late bus need to be picked up promptly at 4:00 PM in the main lobby. Session I dates are as follows: Nov.1, 6, 7, 20, 21, 27, 28, 29 Dec. 4, 5.
As a reminder, Holman School will be closed on Thursday, November 9th & Friday, November 10th for the New Jersey Education Association convention.
The week of November 13th – November 16th Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held and there will be early dismissal at 1:15PM.Holman’s night conference will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at 5:00PM – 8:00PM. Please note that Friday, November 17th, will be a regular scheduled school day.
On Monday, November 20th, there will be Picture Re-takes.
On Tuesday, November 21st, the Board of Education Meeting will be held at 6:30 pm in the Administration building.
Wednesday, November 22nd there will be early dismissal, and school will be closed for the Thanksgiving Break on Thursday, November 23rd & Friday, November 24th.
