February Principal's Message
Dear Holman Families:
Thank you very much for all of your generosity during HOPE’s Souper Bowl collection for the Jackson Food Pantry. The Holman Community helped to raise over 1,000 items of food.
It’s hard to believe that football season ended on Sunday as the Eagles defeated the Patriots to become the NFL champions. Even if you weren’t an Eagles or Patriots fan, many of us celebrated with friends and family and enjoyed the commercials shown throughout the great football game. It is also hard to believe that half of the school year is over. As always, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions about their progress. Additionally, it is important for students to arrive to school on time. The homeroom period provides students with a smooth transition to a day of learning. At this time, the students review the day’s schedule, copy homework assignments, listen to morning announcements, get breakfast and distribute notes and materials from home to their teachers. To provide your children with a positive start to the day, please plan your morning so your child arrives to school at 8:35 a.m. After 8:45 a.m., students are considered tardy.
The next HOPE meeting will be on February 21st at 7:00pm in the Holman IMC. We invite all parents to attend this session.
If you would like to be updated on upcoming HOPE events, I encourage you to register for the “HOPE News” REMIND feature for your text and/or email. Registration is easy. Click on this REMIND link and follow the instructions on the flyer.

Book Fair – Holman’s Book Fair will begin on Friday, February 16th, kicking off Read Across America Week. This year’s theme is Paws for Books. Dr. Seuss Night, an evening event during Read Across America Week, celebrates Dr. Suess and the love of reading. This special, fun-filled night is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2018. In order to accommodate the anticipated large attendance, there will be two sessions: Families with last names beginning A – K will start at 6:00pm. Families with last names beginning L – Z will start at 7:15pm. A ticket is required to enter through the Holman Gymnasium. This will be the ONLY entrance to the building allowed that night. Please join us in this opportunity to celebrate reading! We hope to see you there. Keep looking on the Holman website for further information. We encourage students to participate in Read Across America Events to be held during school days:

With the weather getting colder, please visit the district website for all information involving school closings and delays. You may find this information by starting on the district’s main site (www.jacksonsd.org), highlighting the “Calendars and Hours” tab and clicking on “School Hours”.
In the event of a delayed opening, please remember that
- School will start TWO hours later than the scheduled start time.
- MORNING CHILDCARE is CANCELLED when there is a delayed opening
- Continue to check the district and school web page, as well as the Holman Student Handbook, for more information. You can always call the school directly if you have any questions.
Remember, before sending your child out to the bus stop or dropping them off at school, please take a few moments to make sure that they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Students should come to Holman School wearing clothing that keeps them warm during the school day. Dressing your child in multiple light layers is recommended so that they can remove the top layer if they get too warm while indoors. As the temperatures get colder, please make sure that your child is also wearing the appropriate outerwear, such as a jacket, gloves, hat, etc.
Looking and Planning Ahead:
On Tuesday, February 20th, the Board of Education Meeting will be held at 6:30 pm in the JMHS Fine Arts Auditorium. During that meeting, we will be honoring our teacher of the year and our educational services professional of the year.
TIME (Together Influencing Math Excellence)
What is TIME? TIME will provide a way for your whole family to have fun doing Math. TIME is based on three components – Awareness, Confidence, and Encouragement. You and your child will work in pairs or small groups to solve mathematical problems, work cooperatively, and “talk Math”. Sessions for Grades 3 and 4 students and their families will be held in the Holman IMC on 2/8, 2/15, and 2/21 from 6:00-8:00pm. Please contact the main office as soon as possible if you are interested in attending this session, as space is limited.
