October 2018 Principal's Message
October 2018
Dear Holman Families:
The leaves are turning color, the temperatures are beginning to fall, and the night sky is getting darker more quickly each day. Fall is here! We have many things planned at the Holman Elementary School this October.
It was great seeing more than 350 families during our Back to School Nights. I look forward to seeing even more family members during American Education Week. This special event will be held on Tuesday, November 13th and Wednesday, November 14th. There will be three sessions held to accommodate various grade levels.
- Tuesday, November 13th
- Grades K, 1, and 2 – 9:30am
- Wednesday, November 14th
- Grade 3 - 9:30am
- Grades 4 and 5 - 10:00am
Mark your calendars!
Please join us on Tuesday, October 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Holman IMC for our H.O.P.E meeting. During the meeting, our Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Baginski, will discuss district-level initiatives and priorities. One topic of conversation will be the vote taking place on November 6th to hire six additional security guards. In order to provide optimum security coverage for all of our ten schools, these additional officers are needed. Our security team is excellent, as is our collaborative relationship with the Jackson Police Department. But in today’s world, it is not enough. We want to know we are doing all we can – and that means we need additional staff to provide another key layer of security. Please join us tonight for this very informative H.O.P.E. meeting. I look forward to seeing you there.
H.O.P.E. (Holman Organization of Parents & Educators) will be hosting Holman School's Book Fair on October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Holman students will have a chance to visit the Book Fair with their teacher at least once during the week. The Book Fair offers readers a wonderful selection of fun and engaging books. Reading is one of the most important skills that you can teach a child. I encourage you to read with your child any possible chance that you can get. Time spent reading with young learners has amazing effects on students’ educational success and creates a special bond. Our Family Fun Book Fair night is on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. The theme for the fair is Enchanted Forest. Let your Imagination Grow! Please mark your calendars for our next HOPE meeting which will be held at 7:00PM in the IMC on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Please be sure to support H.O.P.E. Visit their link on our school web page. You can support H.O.P.E. in many ways.
Schools Closed
As a reminder, please note that students will be off from school on Monday, October 8th as the Holman School will be closed for staff in-service.
